Japan apparently has school festivals that celebrate the graduations of seniors, and students can hold events and such, some of which may have similarities with proms by coincidence.

Okay so my favorite manga, Souten no Ken (the prequel to Hokuto no ken set in 1930s Shanghai), is getting a new anime releasing NEXT WEEK.
Here's the latest trailer.
It's made by the same studio who made Ajin and Knights of Sidonia, neither of which I know anything about but the trailer looks pretty good.

Is this an extension of the already existing Fist of the Blue Sky anime?

I'm pretty sure its a full remake of the series, since that anime is over a decade old.

Just binge watched all of Made in Abyss last night.  It was pretty good but not anime of the year material imo

The heel-turn in tone was definitely a high point, and I do appreciate that it took a while longer to happen compared to other shows that do it

Heh, I'm watching Star Trek TNG at the moment, having begun watching all the 'Trek stuff in release order.

TNG Season 3, Episode 2, just after 38 minute in, there's a computer screen of some treaty, except it's trolling the audience. One paragraph on the screen is blatantly a list of the animes "Rick" liked at the time: Dirty Pair, Akira, Urusei Yatsura, Ranma 1/2 and Gall Force.

 According to Rick Sternbach (the "Rick" would either be him or Rick Berman) there's at least one anime reference in every TNG episode.

So I think I've identified the funny meme show of the new season: Magical Girl Ore.

The name is self-explanatory.

One exception to this is the Ruroni Kenshin live action. That was fucking excellent.

Trufax, the Kenshin one was remarkably well done. Felt like fan love got smashed into the production rather than just people trying to make bank off of fan love.

Also noticed I've never seen FMP, though I've seen the vast majority of other shows from that mecha compilation.
