Man with so many great games staying in Japan I am tempted to learn Japanese...

Except there are kind of two major issues

1) Written language is my weak point...
and
2) Man is that obsessive... That and it is a notoriously difficult language to learn... (Yes I am aware people also say English is one of the toughest languages to learn)

Eeehhh... from what I understand, the katakana/romanji stuff isn't actually that bad, as languages go. Mind you, no second language is particularly easy, but still. Kanji, more of an issue, but it's apparently not that terrible to muddle through with a translation guide until you start recognizing enough to get the gist of things.

I can speak/listen to Japanese to some degree but reading is pretty tough. On the plus side there are tools to hook the text out of games which can help you look up kanji and vocabulary. Also if you aim at shounen/shoujou stuff it will generally have kana to help you out.

Right now I have my eyes firmly on Monster Hunter Stories... a really interesting new Videogame IP.

Goodness this is a great year for monster collection RPGs... Monster Hunter Stories, Dragon Ball Fusions, Dragon Quest Joker 3 Professional, Pokémon Sun and Moon.

But stupidly Stories is Japanese only... though to admit it only came out in Japan very recently... there are a lot of rumors it will get translated.

The trailer seems to include a lot of moments that were at least inspired by the original movie and Stand Alone Complex, which seems to be the formula for this kind of half-hearted reboot thing. I can't wait to see if we end up with a shit movie or an okay-but-not-as-good movie. My expectations are kinda doomed from the start, given that it's a reboot in the first place.
