I mean that's half the point of fiction, isn't it, letting people live out unrealistic fantasies without causing social harm? It's just nice to see affirmation in the research that all those fuckers blaming books/films/TV/music/vidya/VR full-dive pronz/whatever for crime were talking out of their asses to push a narrative.

... what? I thought you enjoyed porn? I'm pretty sure max isn't talking about the news side of sankaku.
"I browse them for the crimes against common sense." :P

Realtalk for a second though, I stopped enjoying porn for the sake of it when I was fourteen or so, once you start laughing at all the dumb crap surrounding it your perspective never goes back. But there are unfortunately a decent number of good artists out there who dabble in the NSFW, and for better or for worse (it's the latter) those sites are generally the best archives of their work. It honestly kinda cheeses me off, even if I can understand the motivation - if a shitty bit of smut from some talentless hack gets more attention than a really damned good piece of SFW fan-art/landscape/whatever, why even bother, right?

Ah. Well, you have my condolences. Carry on.

E: Though, uh. I'm pretty sure a lot of the motivation is just that they like drawing NSFW stuff. More than a few artists who do just fine doing just SFW stuff still dabble (with varying degrees of enthusiasm) in the lewds.

Kinda' like the fiction. I'm not even sure if a plurality of writers write erotica and whatnot because it's more popular or whatev'. Some certainly do, of course, and some dislike (at times significantly so) being strongly incentivized to, but most I've had the chance to talk with (or at least observe discussing the subject) just enjoy writing smut, too.

Oh, no doubt. But there's pretty strong circumstantial evidence when an artist starts out producing nothing but SFW content and gradually slides into NSFW until that's all they do. And I'm not including tasteful art that'd get a NSFW label for nudity in that, either. Just a wee bit different from the obvious-horny-teenager sorts that begin, carry, and conclude their foray into creative writing with stories that are functionally excuse-plots which exist for the sole purpose of letting their characters of choice boink. :-\

That's the main problem with it for me. Porn is the visual equivalent of mindless lemon fics/supermarket bodice-rippers, goofy unrealistic shit that's more disturbing than arousing. I can enjoy a good romance, which can include lewds, but the words "good" and "romance" coincide with approximately the same regularity as total solar eclipses.

The opposite happens plenty, too, though. Folks that transition into SFW and then basically can't share stuff they enjoy making (i.e. nsfw stuff) anymore because of the effect it would have on the consumption of their other material. Or start sfw and then don't really get to expand because of similar concerns. Certainly some folks (let themselves) get drug down to the lowest common denominator, but that's everywhere, and not even remotely unusually prolific when it comes to matters of lasciviousness, at least from what I've noticed over the last couple decades.

... it can be, anyway. There's also plenty that's... not. Stuff that's amusing, touching, involve pretty impressive character interaction or settings, so on and so forth. Probably less often with the live action stuff, but we've been talking th'other sort. It's a genre of creative work that's like any other, just one with somewhat different goals, methods, and so on -- more freedom in some ways, less in others. There's a lot of potential in the incitement of arousal (or even just the exploration of sexual situations) that gets explored, and doesn't quite have equivalents in material that's more... tame. Whole other set of angles and focuses and expressions and so on that just don't get touched on in other venues much, if at all.

Though sometimes being goofy and unrealistic is half the point, heh. Ain't nothin' wrong with that so long as someone's (preferably both creator and audience, but it can be one or the other, too) enjoying it. Fun is fun, et al. And there's a fair amount out there that's pretty easy to enjoy even if you're not specifically aroused by it at that moment in time. At least if you're not (intentionally or otherwise) trying to sabotage your own enjoyment ;)

On the porn subject, I suspect the issue might be the types of porn people see. Of course if you think of boorus as a major source of porn, you're gonna perceive porn so fundamentally banal, because boorus are fundamentally for single images, with some support for very short comics added as an afterthought. You rarely see anything that's a full chapter in length, much less a full volume, because narrative content is really not what it's for. That's not to say that full length works don't also have silly premises on occasion, but I don't think it's more prevalent than in non-lewd stuff.

On the other hand, Ryuuko Mifunes thighs are a visual bark dick potion for me.
I'm not saying there's anything wrong with thighs. But the portrayal seems way more fan servicey, in the sense that it looks inappropriately lewd, than the stuff in TTGL or KlK. It's not a "hot or not" dichotomy but a "serial or not" one.
Although in defense of KoF, that Mexican chick pulls off the panties and chaps look okay,  which is also a pretty slutty outfit when you think about it. On a bit of a side note, I really like the designs for the Mexican team. They do a good job of being distinctively Mexican without being stereotypes.

I'd like to step in and and put an end to the porn discussion now. Hentai or not, I don't think it's appropriate for my thread.

Back to the anime discussion, Berserk has a second season (or is it cour since it's only 12 in the first one?) confirmed for spring next year, and apparently Nanatsu no Taizai second season wasn't referring to the 4 ep ova.

From what I've seen, Re: Zero apparently got the story arc wrapped up earlier than the LN, so no clue what they're going to do.

Anyone got any standouts from this fall season that are still going? I've heard 91 Days is good from a few places but had totally missed it since I was going through a few shows from the backlog with the missus.

If you haven't already indulged in it completely already, Mob Pscyho 100's season finale is next week, and it's a contender for best anime of the year in my opinion. I'm very hyped about seeing the ending.

Probably either never continue it or give it a bunch of filler.

Stuff I might try based solely on trailer impressions:
Nanbaka - Looks campy as shit. If the humor's good, it'll be good, and the opposite as well.
Drifters - Two word summary: Feudal Hellsing.
Zegapain Adaption - Solely because the visuals are hammering the Sousei no Aquarion nostalgia button really hard.

If you really hate yourself you could watch the new season of SAO. Looks like they've given up the pretense and gone full wish-fulfillment real world superpowers.

Oh hey, they're animating drifters? That should be interesting. Think the last time I caught up with the manga what looked suspiciously like jesus was playing sauron.

I'll keep watching SAO for the sole reason I'm already up to date on SAO. Might as well keep going: it's not exactly a long series. Although I hope this won't be like sitting through season two of Infinite Stratos. Watching S2 of that was like 24 minutes of physical pain every week.

I liked the Drifters manga, forgot that was airing too.

Not touching SAO, and I was going to watch Mob Psycho 100 with the missus but didn't know the first ep had the roaches, and that's enough to turn her off the show given her deep phobia there.

Speaking of SAO, Abridged Episode 10 was finally released from automatic Sony takedown bot counterclaim hell.
