Common Route:
- Amane has way too much screentime compared to the other girls.
- By transitive property of their situation, Makina also has the next highest amount of screentime.
- I rather like Amane's unashamed personality; but that's only because I've seen a lot of characters freak out when seen in the nude.
- How does Mihama Academy stay afloat? Or even work?
- Yumiko is mostly unlikeable. Not her fault though; she has way too little screentime in the Common Route and most of it is being spent acting like a prick.
- I don't get Michiru fans. She talks like an idiot and each "Tsundere" attempt makes me cringe.
- The common route drags on for too long, with semi-filler scenes every few scenes.
- Yuuji really has no social skills. It helps to be the only male in school, because a person who keeps being totally blunt and speaking in military metaphors is not someone you can build an easy relationship with.
- Also, Yuuji IMHO seems to feel like a generic powertrip protagonist. In spite of self-loathing, women would still be willing to throw themselves to him, most of which is especially jarring on Michiru, who has no chemistry with Yuuji. Deadfish eyes don't help his case. Also his young, being the best at work status is quite on the edge of the suspension of disbelief. At least his history was interesting.

Makina Route:
- I half-expected entering her route, Yuuji would still reject the offer of funds being offered to him. I was wrong.
- Makina's really adorable in this route. Except for...
- OEDIPUS COMPLEX EVERYWHERE
- That was some rather grim backstory. Makes you want to protect the adorable little girl.
- I skipped both H scenes. It's hard to take seriously, and every single moment there's an allusion to Yuuji's pseudo-papa status.
- If anything, this route might as well be a shared route to Yuuji's history and Makina's relationship with Yuuji. The mercenary backstory is strong here.
- I REALLY WANTED TO KILL HER MOM, but that resulted in a depressed Makina. Here's a cheer to going back in time.
- Yuuji still looks really dead on the epilogue. Makina practically replaced him. Damn, what a good father you are. *eye roll*

- Tons of Route Sex.
- Wish to skip.
- Can't; plot seems relevant.
- Titty girl is incredibly servile and loyal. Of course, this is bad because plot reasons.
- Backstory time. Estimated time of completion: TOO MANY LONG HOURS. (not that I dislike long reads)
- Kazuki is awesome. Her bro-con status is hit or miss.
- Lord of the Flies.
- Was tempted to say, why not try to climb up the ravine, many times.
- People grilled dogs. Then people.
- Kazuki is explicitly "implied" to be semi-dead. Plot hooks about, for when Meikyuu comes to it. Or something.
- The scenes prior to the epilogue seem to have been stuck there just because. Violence doesn't make all scenarios interesting, Front Wing.
- Epilogue was a little bit of a mixed bag; unsure if Amane ever truly loved Yuuji and vice versa, and only did things due to their "sense" of responsibilities.
- Why is Makina still spending a majority of her time with a graduated Amane?!

Well, I already started this. Might as well carry it through the end. Impressions are mostly okay, with some issues that I took notice of, and one of the routes almost intentionally making me feel squicky (Makina) as to how both parties keep up with 'that' farce.

Satsuki's body is literally the same as Ryuko's, but taller.

Although I have to admit, Satsuki's face is perfectly designed. It's the only uniquely identifiable female anime face I've seen (Ie, I could tell who it is without coloor, hair or other identifiers)

So basically the villain fell inlove with a human... And wanted to be wed. To prevent their relationship Odin created a BS requirement where you had to go through a archway and if there is ANY DOUBT that the other doesn't truly love you, it separates you and prevents you from ever seeing each other again.

She then attempts to destroy the Arch (Which is why she is evil apparently)

The movie ends with the two leads going through the Arch and Morgan realizing that it was her who had the doubt, believes she was wrong, and devotes the rest of her life to helping new lovers to pass the test of the Arch.

Which no freeken offense... NO Morgan you were right the first time. This test is total BS, it by its very nature plants the seed of doubt and requires near inhuman levels of trust to pass.

Yeah... our main duo passed... Yet their relationship isn't natural. They don't fight, they don't argue over their differences, they don't even inconvenience the other if they can help it. HECK our main character once was forced to eat someone else's huge feast and still decided to eat his girlfriend's cooking (and in fact required medicine after) JUST to show he appreciates her cooking.

And EVEN IF they were just an ordinary couple. Who the heck deign proclaim that only true absolute love without a trace of doubt be the only ones worthy of a relationship? The test ONLY exists as a way to prevent inter-racial relationships with the ability to pass the test anyway purely an excuse so it doesn't SEEM unfair.

Heck I could MAYBE accept it if... I dunno... A Elf and a human getting together often could cause damage to the fabric of reality and this test exists as a way of mitigating the damage without outright banning it.

So no movie. In spite outright saying she was wrong... She was right.

Well I watched Kuma Miko. It was disappointing. I expected a charming slice of life series set in the country. it did not deliver the charming part: too much underage girl forced into various states of undress and sexy outfits, too much shit about how living in the country sucks.

I mean seriously! Series such as Non Non Biyori, Barakamon and Gin no Saji focus on the charm that the countryside has to offer, Kuma Miko constantly harps on about what they lack, and when they mention the shitty local produce it's a gag about how much the place sucks. One of the few "good" points brought up is that now they have an internet connection, so they can buy shit from other places online. It's a rare show about country life that constantly deprecates country life and exalts the conveniences the city offers.

Flying Witch did actually deliver those things: a charming and tasteful (no loli fanservice: unlike Kuma Miko) slice of life anime about semi rural lifestyles.

I also found Anne Happy far better than Kuma Miko. Anne Happy is a Yuru-Yuri style slice of life show about girls gathered in a special class for those cursed with various misfortunes. It gets pretty hilarious.

The average magical girl seems to kill, at a guess, at least 2-4 witches before they corrupt into a new witch, but how do you maintain this? If we use 3 as an average for the sake of argument, that means that with 6 magical girls you kill 18 witches, and then create 6 new ones. This new batch of witches would be killed by 2 magical girls, leaving 2 new witches, which would be killed by 1 new girl, leaving 1. The entire thing trends downwards.


For that matter, how did this cycle start anyway? If there was originally no witches to fight at the beginning, how did the first magical girls fall to despair? How did Kyubey/the Incubators convince them of a duty they need to fulfill when there would be nothing to fight against? Did it just go down like, "Hey, want a free wish to become a magical girl?" "What do I need to do when I become a magical girl?" "Nothing, just sit around for a few years."
I don't think they ever actually explain what trick or plan they did to get the whole thing running.

Most puella never manage to kill their first witch. Besides, I strongly suspect that the incubators get their energy from some other part of the system, which would let them "replant" witches after a time.

But that's just speculation. It's impossible to say what exactly is going on when we don't know the basics of how they extract energy from emotions.

It's also somewhat self sustaining in that the more witches you have, the more MGs you can sustain, while running out of witches essentially causes them to starve into new ones.

Speaking of which, I thought familiars were in danger of growing into their parent witch? Did they not do that and/or could pokevolve into entirely new witches?

For motivation, remember that everyone we know of joined up for somewhat selfish reasons (eg the wish, not the defending people from witches bit) and nobody we know of fell to despair because of a witch directly (one was involved for Homura and possibly Kyouko, but the actual cause was failure/loss of someone they cared about). Combine that with Kyuubey claiming this system was basically responsible for all human advancement ever and it's not hard to figure you had a lot of early MGs just looking for food or to make somebody like them or invent the wheel or whatever, pretty much identically to modern MGs but I guess shorter lived.

We're also not sure about the specifics, but after witchery was abolished "man's evils" manifested as glitchy wraiths instead. It's possible something similar was happening/tends to happen any time or place you don't have a lot of witches for it to leak out into.

As far as I'm aware, we don't have any information on why it happened, other than Homy's one poetic line on the subject. As I recall Madoka's explanation for keeping elements of the current system mentioned letting people continue to make wishes, but didn't say anything about the Coob Crusade specifically, and Homura and Kyuubey's discussion(s) about the current setup's efficiency didn't mention that aspect's origins.
