Just finished episode 11, about at the half-way point of Kill la Kill.

I'm kinda annoyed that as soon as they axe Jakuzure, they immediately introduce another ultra-girly girl super-cutesy nasally high-pitch character to destroy the built-up villain Sanageyama, derail the current plot, solve the mystery of who killed Ryuko's dad, reset all advancement to zero and introduce a whole new arc in a single scene. After this show spent ten episodes subverting all my expectations and taking me by surprise, it's really disappointing that they pull such a lazy twist out of nowhere at this stage.

Anyways, some thoughts on Kuromukuro, seeing as ep 11 finaly got translated (just in time for the next one too). I'm willing to be money that Akagi guy gets to pilot Longarm sometime soon, and I'm not sure I really like that idea since it feels like they're throwing him, a rather bland dude with a crush into the mix just so we can have some love drama or something. I mean, it could be interesting if they give him a bit more focus and we follow his development into someone interesting perhaps, but I'm not sure I'm able to give anyone that much credit these days.

Anyways, waiting for the next episode to see how accurate I was.

...darn it, I can't even say what anime ending this immediately reminded me of without completely spoiling the anime itself.  Because, well, last-second "plot armor takes five AP rounds to the chest" is a bit of a spoiler.

Let's see, shows watched together and posted here were Elfen Lied and GuP, from what I found with a 5-second cursory search.  Hmmm...I'm gradually realizing just how utterly inadequate my anime list is for analogy to those two, that would also be amusing to watch other people watch.  Ooh, maybe Irresponsible Captain Tylor; some of the more interesting/outrageous stuff in that show might be fun to watch other people react to. ^_^ For more "high school girls fighting in whatever", maybe...oh, I dunno, how about Bodacious Space Pirates (I actually picked it up because the name was so outre that it couldn't help but set off my "train wreck" fascination; it wasn't as bad as that, but I think it had a bad case of missed potential that made it ultimately forgettable).  Planetes is one I will always suggest, though, unambiguously and utterly.  Sorry; a lot of the stuff I like is either different tastes, not as suited for a good MSTing, or both.

Common Route:
- Amane has way too much screentime compared to the other girls.
- By transitive property of their situation, Makina also has the next highest amount of screentime.
- I rather like Amane's unashamed personality; but that's only because I've seen a lot of characters freak out when seen in the nude.
- How does Mihama Academy stay afloat? Or even work?
- Yumiko is mostly unlikeable. Not her fault though; she has way too little screentime in the Common Route and most of it is being spent acting like a prick.
- I don't get Michiru fans. She talks like an idiot and each "Tsundere" attempt makes me cringe.
- The common route drags on for too long, with semi-filler scenes every few scenes.
- Yuuji really has no social skills. It helps to be the only male in school, because a person who keeps being totally blunt and speaking in military metaphors is not someone you can build an easy relationship with.
- Also, Yuuji IMHO seems to feel like a generic powertrip protagonist. In spite of self-loathing, women would still be willing to throw themselves to him, most of which is especially jarring on Michiru, who has no chemistry with Yuuji. Deadfish eyes don't help his case. Also his young, being the best at work status is quite on the edge of the suspension of disbelief. At least his history was interesting.

Makina Route:
- I half-expected entering her route, Yuuji would still reject the offer of funds being offered to him. I was wrong.
- Makina's really adorable in this route. Except for...
- OEDIPUS COMPLEX EVERYWHERE
- That was some rather grim backstory. Makes you want to protect the adorable little girl.
- I skipped both H scenes. It's hard to take seriously, and every single moment there's an allusion to Yuuji's pseudo-papa status.
- If anything, this route might as well be a shared route to Yuuji's history and Makina's relationship with Yuuji. The mercenary backstory is strong here.
- I REALLY WANTED TO KILL HER MOM, but that resulted in a depressed Makina. Here's a cheer to going back in time.
- Yuuji still looks really dead on the epilogue. Makina practically replaced him. Damn, what a good father you are. *eye roll*

Spoiler: Amane Route (click to show/hide)

Amane Route:
- Flirts.
- Tons of Route Sex.
- Wish to skip.
- Can't; plot seems relevant.
- Titty girl is incredibly servile and loyal. Of course, this is bad because plot reasons.
- Backstory time. Estimated time of completion: TOO MANY LONG HOURS. (not that I dislike long reads)
- Kazuki is awesome. Her bro-con status is hit or miss.
- Lord of the Flies.
- Was tempted to say, why not try to climb up the ravine, many times.
- People grilled dogs. Then people.
- Kazuki is explicitly "implied" to be semi-dead. Plot hooks about, for when Meikyuu comes to it. Or something.
- The scenes prior to the epilogue seem to have been stuck there just because. Violence doesn't make all scenarios interesting, Front Wing.
- Epilogue was a little bit of a mixed bag; unsure if Amane ever truly loved Yuuji and vice versa, and only did things due to their "sense" of responsibilities.
- Why is Makina still spending a majority of her time with a graduated Amane?!

Total score ATM: 7.3/10

I still haven't finished Sachi, Michiru and Yumiko's routes.

So watched Kabaneri no something something (and the Iron Fortress in japanese i presume) 11th episode...and gave up half way through

The show had so much promise despite the typical bland "IM GONNA SAVE EVERYONE! NO ONES GONNA EVER GET HURT AGAIN!" stupid good main character...but it completely lost it with the introduction of the Villain.

I mean what the heck? First he shows up as mysterious pretty boy visionary who wants has the only reasonable plan out of everyone, only to quickly turn into what someone described some pages back as Skeletor.

None of what he does makes any sense. His father accidentally stabbed him n his childhood because he thought Biba was an assassin...and for that he hates him? Well tough luck shit happens kid, get over it. No instead he decides to take little girls and makes them his mind-controlled super-zombie slaves which he then uses to destroy the last bastions of humanity for a "YOLO only the strong survive" approach (which is utterly retarded)...then goes on to do the same in the Capital after he gets his father killed and for what?

And there's our typical main character, whining around because: suprise, suprise you can't save everyones ass...especially not if you antagonize the prince with the army for shady reasons (LOOK AT HIS EYES HE LIKED KILLING THAT MAN; HE MUST BE EVUL!)...so he does the only thing left to his pitiful oxygen deprived brain, he sits in a corner and mumbles on about not deserving to live instead of saving his other friends.

When finally uselessly blunt samurai dude comes by and expresses his disgust, i halfway hoped he would give the little shit at least a proper beating (hoping that he would stab him in the heart and end this waste of biomass was too much to hope for after all) but no he just shakes his head disapprovingly and does what he does best dragging about human beings with other life philosophies than his own and generally being disdainful and lordy over them...by that point i had finally given up...

this show is utter crap. What a waste of an awesome premise, universe and animations...its sad really.

anyway to the GuP dude: Haifuri is basically Girls und Battleship, then there floats around Girls und Luftwaffe somewhere (don't ask me where i forgot its name) and otherwise Upotte if you want Girls und Assault Rifle (although the Girls ARE Assault Rifles, which is less retarded than it sounds)

Hmm anyone got any good animes with some nice ultra-violence and preferably few anime tropes (clicheés? i think you know what i mean)? Think in the vein of Black Lagoon, Jormungand, Berserk, The one with the two professional killers and the prostitute in the vaguely italian city (or was it a proper italian city?) or Gate! (preferably with less harems going on)

Man, Black Lagoon and Berserk really aren't what I'd point to as series that use traditional clichés of the medium. I'd also think that leaning on such would clash with the other premise of quality. TBH I can't really think of anything that has sufficient overlap, except maybe Gantz, if you want to take wossname's constant contextually inappropriate perversions as being representative of a cliché. Fair warning if you read it, though, it gets really fucking weird later on, and that's saying something.

Nope.  Actually, I was warned off of that show by this thread, so I never watched it.  It's a 90s anime that came over around the early 00s.

It's Princess Nine, actually, about an all-girl baseball team. Once the baseball team is actually established, the big driver behind the plot is the goal to become the first all-girl team to play at Koshien (where the finals for the national high school baseball tournament are held, basically the major goal of any junior league baseball team in Japan).  The last serious match is actually a semi-final match to determine if the team that goes to Koshien is their team or the team from their sister school, which is the odds-on favorite to not only make it to Koshien, but also actually win the national tournament there.  It all comes down to the last inning, tied score, and one final catch at the fence to see whether they can push it into overtime or if their opponents get a home run and eke out a win then and there...and they flub the catch and lose.  Since reaching Koshien was a means to an end (that is, to show that a women's team can be competitive on the national level) rather than an end in itself, reaching the semi-finals turned out to be enough to keep the team alive, so it's not an outright loss across the board, but that defeat is still the last game of the show.

So this time we ended up not having much to say; a Hazard of starting a series with realistic, browned characters (planetes) and only watching one episode of the Colorful, cartoony series (Toradora). Next time might be similar: Planetes looks like it's worth watching, but it's a bit dry. Like bread, it must be taken in with something flavorful. Since Haifuri didn't take (Damn you Sprin!), and we nixed Space Pirates since it sounds of similar "quality" to Pacifist-in-a-stupid-situation-to-be-a-pacifist-and-also-NO-PANTS-EVER-HEYOOO, better known by the acronym Strike Witches, Toradora will fill that gap.
