It's from Download: Namu Amida Butsu wa Ai no Uta. The only reason I know this is because I machine translated the video title and entered that into Google with the animator's name. So I didn't actually know it off of the top of my head.

Isn't Panty and Stocking supposed to be a parody of Western entertainment?

A parody as much as an homage I'd say. Plus, I think it's pointing and laughing more at anime and anime tropes in general than anything really western specific.

Depends on how early you're talking, heh. He's certainly gotten more consistent (and generally weaker) in more recent years, and he's definitely had bits where he was portrayed as relatively weak, but some of his earlier stuff also showed him as having a power listing that basically read, "Yes." Up to and exceeding spontaneous celestial engineering! It got pretty crazy.
Remember how once upon a time Superman was "able to leap tall buildings in a single bound"? That was relevant because he couldn't fly. Originally, he was just a dude that was real strong because he was from a high gravity planet. So he was stronger than a locomotive (but compare to humans who can drag jets) but still could face realistic threats. His powers then increased continuously until the golden age, whereafter they were decreased more for the sake of consistency than for any real nerfing purposes. The show from the 40s is closer to the original end of that spectrum than to his golden age state.

Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt.

That is all.
I listen to the music all the time but I've never seen the show. Apparently it's smutty but in an honest way.
It's inspired by western stuff, and directed by Imaishi. It's a comedy. The sexual content is for purely comedic purposes and not remotely pornographic or even particularly attractive. If any of that description sounds good to you, give it a shot. But in a lot of ways it's more "Adult swim, if it wasn't shit" than anime.

It's extremely well done and overall excellent in my opinion. I can definitely see that if you were expecting some serious epic, it wouldn't match your expectations, but for a light-hearted short I think it's about as good as they get.

Finished Ristorante Paradiso a while ago, and Bartender more recently. They were both very good.

Slower paced than most animes, but they were well written and had interesting characters that were worth spending time to get to know. I think I prefer Bartender overall, largely because it focuses on the bartending as well as the characters - there are asides to discuss the history of drinks and the nature of a bartender's job, and it was interesting to see the show ponder about these things for a bit. It was also kind of educational, giving the background of a bunch of real drinks and their recipes. This could have been dull, but the stories behind the drinks always compliment the episode (or even advance the plot when told) so they're generally interesting.

In contrast to Bartender's focus on its craft, Ristorante Paradiso mainly just uses the restaurant as setting where all the characters have a reason to hang out (they work/eat there). I don't hold this against the show, because it was obviously about the people and the food, and the people are very well done. I'd just personally prefer something that talked about food more. I appreciated the mundane tone - the characters and plots felt less campy and over-the-top than other animes, even ones with realistic settings. I love camp and I appreciate how saturated anime is with it in general, but this was a refreshing change of pace.

Anyway, on that note, I would like to ask for anime recommendations! I have run out of animes that recently piqued my interest. I'd appreciate suggestions for things that fit any of the following descriptions, with more being better:
  • Slow pace and/or chill atmosphere. Little to no action.
  • Focus on food or drinks.
  • Realistic setting that is not a high school.
  • Educational, though I don't want this to be more of a focus than entertainment.

Antique Bakery is the most similar thing to the other ones you just watched.

Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou, the OVAs and the manga.

Aria matches slow-paced/atmospheric, doesn't have a highschool focus. I wouldn't say the setting is realistic however since it's in the vein of science fantasy, but it's definitely well-realized, and character driven rather than action driven.

In terms of chillax mangas, I can recommend Aruku Hito and Inu wo Kau by the same author. You should probably read Aruku Hito first, but don't miss the exciting death-defying adventures in Inu wo Kau no matter what. BTW don't read the synopsis for Inu wo Kau because it spoils the ending.

Its like South Park had a baby with Anime. A butt baby specifically, so it can be shit covered when it comes out and make everyone vomit before it goes and hits on the nurse.

Also if Hulu had more then 2 episodes of the dub it would probably be the only anime I could watch with my mom.

I swear one of these days I am going to see the most amazing anime that is touching, funny, and deep...

Only for it to be destroyed once the harem gets involved.

Harems seem to spell death for any anime that shows even a hint of potential.

The basic structure of a harem implies the writer couldn't think up anything better, so went with that. It's a type of sitcom template basically. Some shows stick to a template but still fill it with great writing and ideas. But usually if you're going to that much trouble, you could have thought up a more original premise anyway.

Look at the glut of terrible 80's sitcoms for the parallel in the USA. They mostly follow a similar situation. Character + twist + setting + other characters + buttmonkey/comic relief. Very often it's a "fish out of water" series, with some ludicrous premise.

I could sit through a showing of the 20 worst harem anime much more easily than the 20 worst US sitcoms.

Ohhh... the bottom of the harem barrel is quite deep.

Though I'd honestly think they would be just about equal.

I'unno about the twenty worst harem animes,* but I'd take 20 bad ones over 20 middling sitcoms any day of the week. Even fairly bad harem animes are more watchable than your average sitcom, imo. At least the former occasionally has interesting settings :V

Though yeah, what you're actually going to run into neo is a show that is absolute garbage until the harem gets involved. That's the good stuff. Pretty sure I ran into one of those a year or two ago, but zog knows I couldn't remember the title, or... well, anything, at the moment. What I can recall... some kind of generic fantasy until the character interactions kicked in, and it actually handled the harem aspect with some aplomb and not just UST and fanservice. Unfortunately, "generic fantasy setting with harem" describes... probably a few dozen LNs I've read in the last few years. It's... kinda' common >_>

*My response to being forced to make the choice between worst and worst would be decking whatever bastard was trying to do that to me, and then leaving. I would literally rather eat an assault charge than go through that.

Harems seem to spell death for any anime that shows even a hint of potential.
Money > creativity. When a writer gets popular for a manga/LN there's no guarantee they'll get popular again with a new work, so they endlessly perpetuate the old one and studios keep churning it out.
IMO it's more a symptom of how Japan treats the profession.

Doesn't really have anything to do with japan in particular, though. That kind of behavior is endemic to creative works worldwide, both commercial and otherwise, animated or not. It's a symptom of how people (especially less experienced writers) tell stories more than anything, s'far as I've been able to tell. Folks read a story they like, and then they want to write one like it. Sometimes the reason for liking it may be fiscal (i.e. they know the story archetypes sell), but plenty of times they just... like it, y'know? Harem (or <insert whatever>) drivel sells for a reason.
