It has an unsatisfactory conclusion as a result of the show only covering a small number of the novels. e.g. from what I can ascertain, the first season is books 1 and 2, and the second season is books 3 and 5 (they seem to have skipped over book 4). There are 17 volumes in total, with two books matching a season. To satisfactorily adapt the rest would require the pacing is kept the same. 4 books are done, 3 books are side-stories/flashbacks, 1 book they already skipped. Leaving 9 books. So ... to finish the actual story would require about 4 more seasons, or let's say two more seasons if they excised a few entire storylines. Unfortunately, this isn't likely to happen any time soon, but it's not impossible.

The overall plot was really solid IMO, it's just the ending that left me unsatisfied. The actual events that took place were all interesting.

Spice and Wolf I just finished binging this morning and it didn't have nearly as much medieval economics as I would have preferred. This show is ecchi in disguise, sold to me as hard historical fantasy, but turned out to be driven mostly by an intelligently written (the characters I felt were mostly excellent except for some personal gripes) love story

MIND you... if I had to guess, he was hired for the sole purpose that he cannot possibly be a spy.

In real life, this is every spy. Real spies are quiet data entry dudes who could win awards for "most boring person ever"

Though admittedly from later context I'm guessing the character you're referring to is something different, but I thought it was an important thing to note.

From your previous post it seemed like you were trying to sell me on the idea that the books were better.

I suppose there's also "World End Economica", a VN available on Steam. It promises a story chock full of dense Day Trader lingo, but I haven't tried it out myself.

I don't think I will ever buy a VN. There's something about them that repels me. I'm not anti-VN or anything, I just can never bring myself to try one.

I had no friends in primary school, mostly because the eagles were always attacking me, but also because I read books while everyone else was embarrassing themselves learning to interact with each other.

Sorry, I meant "they" as in the people who adapted the anime ended the TV version on a cliffhanger. The show's story ends as they're getting on a boat to go after a specific person, which was the cliffhanger at the end of book 5.

The- Yes, like I said, I finished the anime and it ended on a cliffhanger of sorts. I don't know if the DVDs I watched were different from the TV version but I don't remember any boats. All the conflicts were resolved IMO except for the romantic one. That's what I meant by an unsatisfying ending.

The perfect fantasy story IMO is one that marries the magic with real world concepts, and Spice and Wolf freaking nailed it.

Holo's transformation scenes were awesome, not just because they were exceptionally well animated. Kraft and the other human characters' reactions when it happened were PERFECT and helped sell the idea that this was something magical happening in a world where most people lived normal lives. It had a very Ghibli flavor to it.

That said wow I could not stop staring at the hair highlights whenever they showed up. They struck me as really ugly.

It was back when I thought the plot was going to be a Spy drama where someone within the spy agency is a spy.

So they got the one guy who couldn't possibly be a spy (Imperial Academy, indoctrinated soldier, as dumb as a post) as a way to find the one person they could trust.

Now the anime didn't go that direction in spite that being the anime synopsis and what the introductory episode hints at.

On a side note I'd like to explain a bit more about the bully character and how he is such a big jerk that he somehow... can't be taken seriously as a Jerk.

Another aspect of it is the WAY he bullies the main character. The focus of his bullying is less put downs and ego attacks, though it is present, and more... threatening him to not even attempt to apply to the same school as him because it would interfere with his plans.

Which means that the bully character, though he hides it, is clearly threatened that our powerless protagonist through his sheer heroic heart could somehow get into an elite school for super heroes... And he keeps perpetually focusing on him.

I disagree with the first part of your post. My first VNs had branching paths and multiple endings and I loved them to bits. Kinetic novels seem dull in comparison now (though maybe I just haven't had good luck with them, I dunno).

My suggestion was for a person who said they liked books but couldn't ever see themselves doing VN's. I'm not saying that kinetic novels are the best VN's or anything like that, all I was doing was giving a suggestion about a way that someone who enjoys books might be able to sneak into the world of VN's. Honestly they can both be good IMO, a kinetic novel is something I turn to if really I want to read a book with some artwork/voices thrown on top, while a more interactive VN is something that I'd grab when I was in a bit more of a video-gamey mood but still wanted some solid story and didn't mind a bit of reading.

I bought nekopara when I saw it had a breast bounciness slider. No regrets.

Not gonna lie, I own it too. But that doesn't mean that it's exactly a Nobel Prize tier type of VN.
