And @IO, I really just don't know. I guess technically it is, just soft and kinda' crummy from that direction. If there's any substantial reason to read that stuff from my angle, it's to see just how they're attempting to skirt the line of being classified as straight up adult material. I hope they balance Phoenix Wright's character a bit better this time. I know he is supposed to be somewhat clueless, even at the best of times, but the live action movie drawn it out a bit too much. Well that and his stumbling wasn't a funny or tense kind, it felt more like an interruption in the action.

Though even if they don't, I still liked the Live Action movie so they can't really do badly. It isn't like they can add a harem or fights to the mix.

Eehhh, unless things get interesting after I stopped reading (part way through the second chapter, shortly after the little sister finished doing salacious things with her brother's shirt and then doing the whole by-the-numbers tsundere abuse thing to him for walking in), it's really kinda' boring. Main conceit is the sister possessing a cat, after which the author uses the whole feline erogenous zone thing to play up the fanservice angle. Which is something that comes up with relatively regularity when feline shapeshifter equivalents (which this is) are involved. Nothing new, basic diddly-bit hiding stuff, standard incest/pedo baiting. Like said, boring.

I'm having a look at the anime Gakkou Gurashi right now, typical cute girls x things school club anime but with a twist.

but I think that's because I was being impatient waiting for the ending since my friend and I figured out what was going on before it even aired thanks to some stuff we noticed on the seasonal anime chart we were using.

The issue is that the manga believes that Shiba is up against people far over his league.

The Writer, in otherwords, thinks they are writing a story about Batman versus Superman level villains who "outthinks" them.

This concept is fascinating me far more than it should, and I think I know why.

It finally clicked for me that Shiba's shit is intended to be earned. I mean, think about it: Who's the underdog in any given situation? On paper, it's "whoever has fewer advantages." But technically speaking, that's by definition whoever loses, right?

So in practice, it's basically "whoever has less unearned raw power." The villain with squads of mooks isn't the underdog because WOW! He has all these mooks! And he didn't earn them! So when the hero figures out a way to take them all out... well, by definition, the hero had more innate advantages than the villain did. But partially because of narrative and partially because we see him do it, his advantages feel earned while the villain's don't.

And the type of advantage doesn't really matter. The classic case of underdog is when the hero is more cunning than an enemy with more raw physical power, right? But then you can have a mad scientist inventing all kinds of shit with his brilliant intellect and skill, and the hero's still the underdog because punching robots is hard. You can also have a hero who just out-GRRRRRRs an enemy that was supposed to be untouchable, but they have to have their girlfriend toss them a sword or realize they really don't want to lose first. Hell, you can even have a hero train really hard and then just be a lot stronger and... while it's hard to call the hero an underdog for that particular fight, he doesn't necessarily lose that status in the story proper.

So in Shiba's case... all that shit that's supposed to be disadvantages but isn't? That's supposed to be the reason everything else he has is earned. It's not just something he threw on after the fact because "a hero needs some flaws," it's the crippling mountain of problems the hero has overcome to achieve his current prowess. It's just easy to miss or dismiss that fact because, you know, it's complete "trust-us-on-this" bullshit that's never corroborated by anything we see, akin to a "really clever" hero who can hack consoles at lightning speed ("because trust us, he's really clever") but never does anything clever outside brute-force attribute rolls.

Also I'm fairly certain that's one of his powers except the console is reality, so it's less an analogy and more of a straight example. What's the smartest thing Shiba's ever done? Probably nothing to write home about. But trust us on this, bro, he is so smart when it comes to this thing with the reality, which is why he's the underdog who is sniping out that Chinese city for insulting his sister who's lusting after him, all in spite of all these disadvantages he has.

Which also, interestingly, helps explain why fans would defend the technobabble. If his earned advantages all come from how awesome he is at manipulating reality, cutting out him explaining why would be somewhat akin to cutting out the training montages or explanations of how he's beating the villain's unstoppable technique from another work. You know, a work where the hero trains or the villain has a technique. Also, horrifyingly, suggests that the LNs might indeed be better than the derivative material, but not for the expected reasons.

TL;DR: "Shiba would make a better villain than hero" is spot on, because his powers are all unearned brute-force bullshit that's intended to be earned heroic advantages, except shitty writing.

Though even if they don't, I still liked the Live Action movie so they can't really do badly. It isn't like they can add a harem or fights to the mix.

...there was an Ace Attorney live action movie that wasn't a complete abomination? Impressive! Though I guess screwing up a courtroom... thing would have been harder than most other video game and/or anime things.

The movie was very weird since the fanbase demanded it be exactly like the games. Including all the over the top wackyness and visually dramatic reactions to everything.

Halfway through Gakkou Gurashi now. I'd compare it most to Selector Wixoss or Yuki Yuna is a Hero in tone, but a lot better, because unlike those two shows, it's not trying to copycat Madoka.

Digimon Adventure tri. Chapter 1, “Reunion”
It’s been 6 years since Yagami Taichi and the Chosen Children went to the other world, the Digital World, in that summer adventure,
and 3 years since Yagami Hikari and the others’ last battle against BelialVamdemon.

As peaceful days continue, the gate to the Digital World closes at one point. Time passes without even the Chosen Children knowing why it has closed…

Then, one day, a Kuwagamon suddenly appears in Odaiba. The town is destroyed and people flee in panic from its rampage. Taichi, who happens to see the Kuwagamon by chance, chases after it alone in order to stop it. But Taichi is powerless to do anything against the Kuwagamon by himself.

“It’s no good… I can’t do anything on my own…”

As Kuwagamon closes in on Taichi with a roar, his Digivice suddenly begins to glow bright–
“Taichi, you sure got big!”
At the sound of that familiar voice, the story turns largely once again.

Yagami Taichi, 17-years-old, high school.
The adventure evolves once again…
