Well, yeah. SM is cosmic horror story, MGLN is after-the-end milSF, the Fate spinoff that shall not be named is an otherwise decent thing transformed into a pedophile's wet dream, Cardcaptor Sakura is a metaphor for a primary schooler's obsession with TCGs plenty of dark settings to go around.

Man, for something so terrible that I've seen so little of, Mahouka sure has provided me an awful lot of entertainment. Thanks to those of you sitting through and reporting on hours of this shit so I don't have to.

Now if only we could figure out how it has unironic fans.

EDIT: Actually this is another thing where the parallels between Shiba and Jesus are alarming. Originally John the Baptist's followers were a rival cult to the very early Christians. So they wrote John the Baptist into the Gospel of Luke as a lesser figure. The pattern is repeated: John the Baptist does something, then Jesus does the same thing 1000 times better. This actually starts in the womb when John the Baptist's mother meets Jesus's mother and claims her unborn baby is doing a little dance in the womb (more or less) because he's so happy to meet unborn baby Jesus who is emitting some sort of super-baby aura. Elizabeth (Johns mother) goes so far as to claim that Mary's baby is infinitely better than her own baby. This reminds me heavily of the hacky writing in Mahouka, how any time anyone else does something cool, Shiba has to either get all the credit or do it 1000 times better in the next scene. Guy gets the girl: she really wanted Shiba. School Team beats the other team: it was secretly (or not secretly) all down to Shiba.
Well that's neat. And hilarious.

They're probably too young to see the problems.

Well it's entertaining because you couldn't make this shit up: he's an immortal world-class genius / ninja who can nuke cities just by looking at them. He can look at a platoon of soldiers and disassemble all their guns without even blinking, just by twitching one finger. He can fly, and can see through walls and can heal any injury instantly just by looking at you. And life's so unfair to the poor kid. This is only a partial list of the bit that got animated mind you.

He only got his "true powers" unlocked in the 2nd-last episode so almost all of this is from before he got his true powers unleashed. When that happened I was apoplectic, since he was already way too OP for the existing villains before getting this upgrade. Now, the villains are still mooks, but the hero is a flying immortal being that rains nuclear destruction on anyone who offends his sister or friends, wiping out entire armies and cities. And who is a first-year in highschool who we are still supposed to think is an underdog.

I'm going to try reading this manga: Oniichan no Koto ga Sukisugite Nyan Nyan Shitai Brocon Imouto dakedo Sunao ni Narenai no. Long-ass titles like that mean it must be good, yo?

Let's see about that translation... "I'm a Brocon Little Sister That Loves Big  Brother Too Much and Wants To Do "NyanNyan" But I Can't Be Honest".

Yup. Sounds like quality. Have fun with that :V

E: Though by "have fun" I meant I'm going to go look at it, too. Spoiler: The little sister orgasms by page 20 of the first chapter. This may have not been something reasonable to mention :P

I was mainly interested by the fact that she turns into a cat. I want to see how that works out.

I can get jacking off to how powerful yet oppressed and misunderstood someone who happens to be you is, but I'd think they could do better than this.

Speaking of doing better, why not just read porn.

who is a first-year in highschool who we are still supposed to think is an underdog.

Which is honest to goodness why a real threatening villain just wouldn't fix anything. This isn't a case of "Superman doesn't fight pickpockets" where Shiba is being put up against people far under his league.

The issue is that the manga believes that Shiba is up against people far over his league.

The Writer, in otherwords, thinks they are writing a story about Batman versus Superman level villains who "outthinks" them.

So yeah, that's hype. The games already heavily borrow from anime and visual novels in general, so the transition isn't that tough to imagine.
