The Overlord anime makes me happy, but I really want to see the main char going power mad. Why is there only 13 episodes :S

Finally got around to watching Fate/Stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works (it's on Netflix!) I was really excited because Rin's always been my favorite character in the show, and the entire first episode was the story from her point of view. Then I realize that it was labelled Prologue and we're back to Emiya. So sad :(
Oh thank god, it wasn't just me.
In the VN the first three days are from Rin's perspective, so they kept that.

Ah, but seriously, I actually endorse that one with no reservations (that I can think of right now). It's like, sometime after Fate/Zero, the Nasuverse was struck by lightning and split in two. The evil half went on to become Prisma Illya and peeps in children's dressing rooms, while the good half became this version of UBW and hits existential angst with swords.
That pretty much sums it up, yeah. If the Type-Moon anime isn't by UFOtable, stay away.

I liked Fate/Zero more than UBW, myself. Mostly because there was more time spent exploring all the servant/master relationships and forms thereof, and less of the funky Archer x Rin x Emiya x Saber love polygon nonsense.
Yes. The third-person narrative and a lack of focus on any one set of characters is how a Holy Grail War should be done.

I did like the fact that I wasn't sure who to root for in Fate/Zero whereas UBW had a definite protagonist (and yeah, I would have preferred it from Rin's viewpoint too)... but I can't do it! The sparkles were just too pretty! UBW takes my top slot out of the two on the virtue of the pretty fight scenes and huge amounts of background detail. :P

I told a friend of mine that I was watching it, and they responded with "Oh, UBW...you mean Unlimited Budget Works?" Most accurate statement I've heard.

You say that like it's not the show's actual name :P

Half think I've seen it called that more than actually named Unlimited Blade Works, heh.

Haha, I just haven't heard it called that before. I've been missing from the anime-scene too long, I guess.

Also, the characters in Fate are so obnoxious. Like, their decision making process makes hardly any sense at all.
Spoiler: some spoilers, I guess (click to show/hide)
Not to mention Emiya's terrible running into every battle, which I could write off as a "character trait" and so on. Like, if I was in this super-war I'm pretty sure I'd win hands down because I would actually like make decisions based off of basic strategy (and not even the whole soul sucking thing).

I took Emiya's dumb decision making as a sign that he really didn't understand what was going on. The whole "you're being hunted by a bunch of people who will murder you without a second thought" thing seemed to go over his head.

Archer's "let's team up with Caster" thing was mostly because

Parts of the reason Shirou's behavior come out weird because the anime removes most of his inner monologue since UFOtable said they made it with people who've read the VN in mind. There's a lot of scenes where he doesn't state his reasoning behind his actions because he doesn't want to admit it to people outloud.

Aww, Netflix only has the first half. There's always Hulu, I guess.

“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

Ahh, now that I think of it, that came across a lot better in the original anime series, which I haven't watched in ages. They kind of do skip over a lot of the talk about that particular line of thought in UBW. I suppose that just fits into his character, then. Such extremes, though.

Finished watching Brain Powerd and Macross Plus. Loved them both. Plus was great as expected though the hypnosis seemed kinda weird even for Macross. Brain Powerd was very charming with nice themeing and a great soundtrack but I would only recommend to people who enjoy Tomino's style because aside from the low killcount it is the most Tomino Tomino anime that Tomino has ever Tominoed.

Have started reading this Mushoku Tensei thing. Am currently experiencing what it's like to read about a reincarnated japanese hikikomori trying to hold a staff meeting for a three person adventurer party, where the other two parties are an incredibly violent borderline-idiot tsundere twelve year old, and the other is a 500+ year old barely-socialized mass murderer that spent a significant amount of his life indulging in weapon-possessed killing spree. It... they don't really know what's happening, and the main character himself is basically performing a caricature of something he never experienced.

Picture, if you will, three wildly disparate individuals, two of them under 13 years old, gathering around a campfire in the middle of what amounts to a magically inundated death desert. The shortest one, a 10 year old, leads the other two in a round of applause, stating that the meeting has started. He actually tells them to applaud. The incredible awkwardness of everything that's involved in this process is almost palpable.

... it's a thing. I do have to say, though, that this is quite possibly the first LN I've read where the regular lasciviousness is actually self-aware of how scummy it is. It's faintly amazing, reading a perspective character that is not only more or less scum, but is acutely aware of it and (vaguely) trying to be a better person. I'm only three volumes in, so I'm not sure I'd actually recommend it as a whole, and there's parts that are vaguely painful to read, but the degree of self-awareness involved so far is weirdly impressive.

E: Having read a bit more, I also have to express a degree of appreciation for the variety of erection euphemisms used. Author has been fairly fastidious about avoiding repetition, which considering the number of times it comes up (*ahem*) is faintly impressive. The one involving arthurian legends was pretty great.

Railgun S was actually pretty good. It didn't have any utter shit moments like the three previous series, the action was good and plentiful, and slice of life episodes were rare and only used as breather episodes. The Sisters arc was quite a bit better than the Blonde Child arc, but BA wasn't that bad either. Way too many friendship speeches in the climax, though.

My favourite bit was around the time when Misaka found out what the sisters were being used for. The fight between the sister and Accelerator, her death scene, Railgun's reaction, and her brief fight between her and Accelerator were excellent. My second favourite bit was the part where Accelerator started creating plasma. In Index it was a decent thing to witness, but nothing really special. In Railgun S, it was freaking epic. It really showed off how powerful he was and how close he was to reaching level 6.

What I want to see in a future series is more action from the sisters. Each one is a super-experienced combat specialist and there's ten thousand of them. Their use as a mere super computer in the climax was kind of underwhelming.

EDIT: Kongou's also pretty cool. I actually like her personality a lot. She's the usual rich, condescending snob without being a condescending snob. She's good, kind, values friendship (and not as a material thing like her archetype almost always does), and while she does exaggerate her actions, she does actually help out and does so for its own sake. Maybe not interesting traits on their own, but considering her character archetype it is. I have no idea why Teleporter doesn't like her.

I would still prefer UBW over the original anyday. Shirou's inner monologue in the VN I didn't mind much since it was explaining the first time but for original series it really got annoying with every detail. I really didn't need them to waste *TRACE ON* on every action like its a magical girl transformation. UBW from what I understand knew people either seen the VN or the original series so it didn't bothered to explain in detail of Shirou's actions. Either way the animation is alot better with the effects from the original.

I am confused I always thought LeLouche was a villain protagonist or at least on the "Evil" side of Anti-hero. In that in many ways he does the right thing, but through being bastardly.

Did I mistake my assessment and he is supposed to be a typical glorious hero? O_o
