... not. those aren't chinese. Is japanese. Ve... very different.

Also maybe Kill la Kill?

No, I'm fairly certain they're Chinese (/s!). Also, I tried Kill la Kill but it didn't really appeal to me. Of course, this was within the first few episodes, should I have stuck with it?
Yes. Go back and keep watching it until you love watching scantily clad girls swinging swords around.

Oh, I already do. But if I wanted to watch scantily clad women with big eyes fight I'd just go to a medieval parade on the beach.

That has nothing to do with big eyes!

Horses.

Kill la Kill is essentially Gurren Lagann. The main difference is that the puberty metaphor is women's instead of men's. If you like analyzing shows for that sort of thing, watch it. The near-nudity is actually crucial to the whole thing, not just a way to put pervy asses in the seats (although it probably accomplished a fair bit of that).

“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

Fanservice makes the $$$, but I suppose I'll give it another shot.

Also, I've been hearing a lot about "Is It Wrong to Pick up Girls in a Dungeon?". Is it satire or a typical harem?

Typical harem. Probably. Hell, I'd consider a satire of a harem to be unwatchable because it'd be a harem.

Maybe it's a Poe.

Also, the second season of Sword Art Online has so many ass shots.

... that title I don't really recognize is danmachi, innit? It's played pretty straight, at least as far into the manga as I read. All things considered, I give them pretty substantial props for the loli loki -- mentioned that somewhere upthread a ways. Also there's this one scene in the manga where one of the catgirl maids goes all shotacon on the main character that's pretty hilarious. Justifies the manga's existence to me, in any case.

Is also a faintly interesting setting, imo. I could see a pretty neat game or somethin' based off of it, providing all the writers were thrown out and replaced with people less interested in selling T&A, or at least willing to just write the damn porn and get it over with.

Personally, I found it all worth it for the Farewell to Arms (you'll know what I'm talking about when you see it), but yeah. It's good, and I eventually got numb to the fanservice; eventually it stops really seeming at all sexual. But if you don't like analyzing stuff, I can't recommend it, because I have to admit it's something I kind of had to dig to find the stuff that really sold me on it.

Been watching Kaichou Wa Maid Sama.
Pretty much my first foray into Romance anime (unless you count Princess Lover, or the Pet of Sakurasou, or nevermind[/sub])
I dunno. It has a different feel. Not sure I really enjoy that particular feel.

However I'm looking for something a bit more violent and sword-sy to watch with my brother.
Preferably between Bleach and Berserk in terms of hardcore-ness.
Anybody mind helping me out?
Claymore
Afro Samurai. Samurai Champloo [10/10 favorite anime]
Kill La Kill
Sword of the Stranger[10/10 favorite amovie]
Rurouni Kenshin.
shishio.

Belated much thanks to above. I've already seen a few of these but I'll probably be chewing through the rest!

Well Dragon Ball Super is still retreading the plot of the movie which I guess had to be done since it is the only movie that was canon AND important. (I think there are only three canonical DBZ movies... or four... Both Goku's father movies, Trunks movie, and the Super Saiyan God movie)

Still wish they kept the god's alignment as destructive nature neutral instead of his current affluently destructive evil... but frankly I don't picture him being too important for much longer.

I still can't get over the HUGE difference between American and Japanese King Kai. It is almost like night and day (ok, not really. They are both essentially the same but dealing with two different tastes in comedy)

I just finished watch PSYCHO-PASS and I was very impressed.

Spoiler: Actual spoilers (click to show/hide)

Is the second season worth bothering with? I heard it was written by different people. Also, are there any other animes (or any other kind of show, really) that have the following features?

- Not too long
- An exploration of an intriguing idea or deep theme
- Multi-faceted characters that could be real human beings
- A series-arc where things tie together (i.e. strong structure, minimal filler)

I felt Death Note came close, but the bottom fell out of it half-way through. Baccanno! has completely ridiculous characters, but they're uniquely characterised and they have interesting motivations, and the mysteries of the setting carry it forward. I've been enjoying Mushishi, but in general I prefer something with a metaplot. I was liking the original Full Metal Alchemist, so I should probably return to that at some point.

normally i'd say watch the 2nd season even if there was a medium quality decline, but the 2nd season of psycho pass was bad enough that i'd advise to skip it and forget about it.

Goodness does the Vampire have ANY vampire traits other then wings (which is not exactly a vampire trait) and the optional ability to bloodsuck?

Seriously!

Your lucky the show is funny!

---

Also features the most tolerable violent Tsundere I ever experienced

Why? Because she isn't a good guy. Her actions are not passed off as hilariously fine even when she makes the main character miserable.

I know this will probably change later... But I wish more shows would get it through their heads that someone who constantly beats you up is not that funny... When you are more abusive then Bulma, then you have a problem.

Akagi is literally a human being so intelligent that no other human being could understand him. Combined with an inhuman calm that could make him face death itself and never flinch. In a series where they have nothing better to do but constantly tell us these two facts. With opponents who are far inferior to him.
That sounds like a Sue, yeah. But then, why mention that his opponents are larger than life and that he suffers setbacks at all?

What, wearing nothing but reins, a saddle, and a feathery hat isn't scanty enough for you?

Kill la Kill is essentially Gurren Lagann. The main difference is that the puberty metaphor is women's instead of men's. If you like analyzing shows for that sort of thing, watch it. The near-nudity is actually crucial to the whole thing, not just a way to put pervy asses in the seats (although it probably accomplished a fair bit of that).

I really hate to say this, but if the fanservice isn't doing it for you and the airhead isn't doing it for you and the empress isn't doing it for you and the very first scene isn't doing it for you, I do have to wonder what the show has left. Much as I would hate for somebody to miss out on it, it doesn't strike me as the kind of show that starts off terrible but gets better; it strikes me as the kind of show that starts off awesome and then never stops.

On the topic of Dungeon, I've heard:
It is lowest common denominator power fantasy pandering at its finest.
So it's completely serious shonen action harem bullshit, but shonen action harem bullshit that realizes its explicit purpose is to jack off the MC constantly. Porn rather than fanservice, if you will, whatever that does to your impression of it.
