The Gurren Lagann part 2 plot development really surprise me, with the buddhist-similar Anti-Spiral and all that.

Huh, if only there is a Binary faction there. ORDER FROM POWER! I mean, it really is funny how Anti-Spiral's ships are made from blocks Real funny if there is a faction which used ships FROM NUMBERS!

Yes Armok, Code Geass definitely does. If you're nit-picky like me, you'll see a lot of things wrong with it, but for any ordinary person it's great and then some. Code Geass is separated into two 26 episodes seasons, and has a definite, no cliffhanger ending.

I tend to be a nitpick, because I both read TV troopes and dable in animation myself, but I also tend to be able to ignore my own nitpicking and enjoy the show anyway.

...one of the best animes ever made, and it was made by a single person on a small budget, if you can believe that. It's also a relatively short movie, so you won't lose much time watching it.

This was the EXACT thing I was hoping for; fey mood animes, just loke DF and Cave Story are fey mood games and the reason webcomics are better than comic book comics.

Will do searches for "Voices of a Distant Star" and "Pale Cocoon" on Crunchyroll.

For the anime/manga side of things, I do read some webcomics that can sorta qualify as manga, for example A Miracle Of Science, Two Kinds... the DMFA and El Goonish Shive visual styles are also rather manga-like I think.

I only liked Excel Saga's beginning and climax. (There were a few episodes between those two spaces that were good, but most were poor on the quality scale.)

Status report on project "Armok learns about anime":
Watched Pale Cocoon, it was awesome. ^_^ Will probably rewatch sometime.
Searched, Voices of a Distant Star, but it seems to have been removed. 
Searched Code Geass, found it, but haven't begun watching yet, perhaps tomorrow or the day after that, the only sure thing is that SOMETIME I will.

If you can't find something, use google video.
It's annoying and hard to use, but you can usually find stuff on it that you wouldn't find otherwise.

It also helps to search only for videos that you can watch on google.
It really lowers the amount of results which has its pros and cons.

You can get VoaDS fairly cheaply from amazon, then.

Or download a fansub. You know, the google/youtube anime videos are almost universally illegal already, and if you're pirating anyway you might as well get a good-quality copy. Google video's quality, frankly, sucks.

Some good anime that probably isnt shown on TV would be Rozen Maiden, Denno coil (really good and unique), and Seto no hanayome (funniest in the universe, especially 20-22)

That's a second on Dennou Coil.

I'm more ambivalent about Rozen Maiden; it was fun enough, but not really unique. Better than Geass R2, though. 

Other exceedingly good series:

- Eden of the East (airing now)
- Kemono no Souja Erin (airing now)
- Utawarerumono
- Higurashi - a must-see.
- Fantastic Children.. maybe.

Lain is good for people that enjoy not being able to understand anything that's going on.

It's less of a show then it is a really long string of non sequiturs.

and I like how you say that you don't like something that's "plain ridiculous" when you just listed Boogiepop Phantom and Paranoia agent, which are about as ridiculous as it gets.
