Or at least it's been used before the show in question showed up. A few times. Even on stuff that's vaguely respectable. I think. I didn't actually check the websites citing the word, just the google summary whatsits. Neototype specimens and whatnot.

It doesn't have a dedicated wikipedia page, but it is listed on the Type (biology) page.

A neotype is a specimen later selected to serve as the single type specimen when an original holotype has been lost or destroyed or where the original author never cited a specimen.

No, I have no clue what the hell that means either.

Hrrnnn... maybe? Like I said, google actually pulled up some seemingly legitimate uses of the term. Like this. Or this. Or this'un, which involves a gratuitously enlarged picture of a mosquito. Handful of others. Like said, it... might actually be a particularly obscure word.

Yep.  It all started with a "Don't watch Cross Ange" comment, followed on by a screenshot showing that acronym.  I assumed it had to do with someone misinterpreting "neotype" as well.  Looking further into it, though, "neoto" is also actually a word in Esperanto, too; it's a tense of verb "nei", or "to deny."  That may just be overreading into something that doesn't look especially interesting to me, considering it's from the same director behind Gundam SEED and SEED Destiny.  It being clarified here as "rapey trash" more or less cements my lack of interest in it.
