Yeah, it's not like the gunpla battles were something serious, like a MOBA.

I will say that Gunpla does have a sort of oddity in that it is a VERY time intensive game to play. Heck very money intensive too.

When I think about it in a real world sense, it would be very logical to have a cheaper alternative to just full on "took a month to build, and years to learn" gunpla building... or team tournaments.

or rather competitions with standardized unmodified gunpla (because destroyed gunpla are gone forever), and team tournaments where multiple gunpla are in a squad.

Heck I remember when those "knockoffs" appeared and while they were meant to show how the creator is "Defiling Gunpla" I just kept thinking to myself "Wow, these would actually make the game MUCH cheaper to play and could make squad combat outright viable and fun. You could even have like 6-packs of them for five bucks"

Gunpla does and doesn't make sense is really the key. As for people getting righteously angry at the game, a LOT of it makes sense when you remember that Gundam models of that quality are not made overnight and are usually a product of months of testing and they get utterly destroyed... so someone destroying a surrendering gundam is something you can be legitimately angry at. While them being mad at someone for "Not holding up the spirit of the game because they have ulterior motives" I groan at. The Meistro though makes the most sense to me, he is more about holding up the spirit of the game rather then creating unstoppable combinations (He doesn't "break the system") which I can honestly respect because it REALLY kills the enjoyment of a lot of games when someone does those "Well I hope you know how to counter this or else you die" stuff in games.

Sure they are ultra serious about the game... but I consider the game to be on the level of a professional sport in that universe.

Do people just have more spare income in this universe? I mean a CHEAP gundam model kit is about 20 dollars... No one is interested in non-destructive fights? Maybe paintball?

So, I've found a really cute romance manga called Girl Friends. It's this really charming slice of life story. I figured I'd tell people about it since it seems a little unknown.

idk, people throw money into similar things in the real world, like the amount of money spent on professional racing. Or, you get things like robot wars where built robots destroy each other. I believe that people would play the expensive Gunpla hobby if it existed. Not everyone has the money, but enough people do.

Hell, people GAMBLE and lose thousands of dollars for a temporary thrill. That makes no sense either, but casinos make a good profit exploiting that nonsensical behavior. Imagine if gambling didn't exist, an anime about gambling would be seen as something that doesn't make sense since people throw away thousands of dollars on a game, then do it again and again. There's prize money in the Gunpla tournament too, so it could be viewed as a type of gamble.

Most of the focus is on a world championship tournament though, so it could be argued we're not seeing the "average" game of Gunpla as well, rather the few people with the time and resources to go world-level, we do see regular people battling or training with off-the shelf gunpla at several points in the show.

It probably is important to note that over in Japan the kits are quite a bit cheaper in price than anywhere else, and that in the show they play with the HG kits which are the smallest and cheapest grade after the 6 piece snap together beginner stuff. And Bandai Japan has a part replacement service.

But for the most part I think I actually mostly agree with Neo? What is this!

I love how the music doesn't even fit the action, it's just there cluttering the sound space. It's one of those shows where reading the user reviews is more lulzy than the show itself:

This plot twist was stunning and, on the whole, thought-provoking. It was like something written by Kafka...The voice acting is absolutely perfect. When the characters yell each other's names repeatedly you will FEEL the emotion. The OST recorded by Beethoven himself is also marvelous. He did an excellent job, as always...The characters are all equally well-done, from Green Hair Girl to Blue Hair Girl; it's so easy to tell them apart! I especially enjoyed the doctor's dialogue, as I would not have known that the girl whose head exploded was dead without his helpful reminder that "she won't make it."

But the "studio" aren't even an anime studio, they're a game studio. They did OVAs for a number of their own games, and they're all on that same level, more or less. They're really glorified cutscenes rather than shows, although they're not even good as cutscenes, really.

Now, they partner up with actual studios to do the adaptations, and they're much more watchable.

Watched, wondered, wept. I showed it to my family like a feature film, they did the same.
One of these days I will have a Mars of Destruction poster right above my bed.

Make sure to watch Skelter Heaven, by the same company, and follow them up with The Psychic Wars and Wonder Momo.

Though I KNOW I had to have said that before.

Currently watching an anime where the intro is made up of scenes from the show... except done better (More dynamic, better shot, better animation)

Sunday Without God, wow, holy shit was that the most sudden I have ever seen a show turn to complete garbage.
First six episodes: A decently interesting post apocalyptic series about the acceptance of death and the repercussions of it.
Seventh episode: With no grace or reason, suddenly becomes a comedy school harem with super powers, complete with a bathhouse scene where a boy stumbles in and gets beat up. Not even kidding.

What the fuck? Does nobody have the ability or confidence to actually conceptualize a decent setting and plot and then play it through anymore? This just makes me angry. I don't have time for this crap, and it both disappoints and infuriates me as someone who actually cares about good writing in today's world.

These two quotes sum up Tenchi Muyo Ryo-Ohki for me in a nutshell, the intro to the first few episodes made it seem like a hugely deep and symbolic sci-fantasy Japanese culture festival(which is why i tried it, lol) only for it to wind out becoming a WTF comedy Harem after the first major arc.
Of course, I have only watched that one series of Tenchi so I don't know if that's the usual for that anime-name or not, and personally don't care.

They only spend a couple of episodes in that school setting, have you actually watched past that, or you just assume it's gonna be a school comedy for the rest of the season?

But, it's novel-based, and each of the novels deals with the main characters exploring a completely different location and scenario / issues, plus set of secondary characters. Each volume of the novel translates to 2-3 episodes of the anime.
