Oh dude, no, you have to see the whole thing. It actually gets a lot better later in the series. I sobbed ;_;

Escaflowne is good, gets better, gets really good and interesting, then sort of meanders, then goes downhill FAST.

I still think it balances out as a good anime.

Whatever you do, and I mean this from the bottom of my heart :-

Never, ever, watch the movie version.

I can't stress this enough. Do not watch the Escaflowne movie, it will just sour the series.

Thumbs up for the show itself though, but the movie is like a tutorial on why you shouldn't try and cram 26 episodes into 90 minutes.

Just finished watching Akira for the first time. Fucking gorgeous. I wish they still did animation like that.

I actually was never a big fan of the Akira style, it tended to stray towards awkward motion and characters who looked awkwardly similar to each other. Everyone looks like they are pensive all the time.

But then again there are many old art styles I miss in anime... as well I like it when animes can just have completely different art styles... something that isn't as pronounced today.

So yeah, it is too bad they don't.
