Why are all the good manga ending this year? WHY? Is this year magic or something?

If I had to guess it is because of a major shift in audience.

I would have assumed because it's goddamned ancient. What does a series like that even focus on at that point? It's gotta look like a Norse epic, tired snail, or massive wall of whatever it's always been by now, right?

It sort of reminds me how in the anime, not the good pilot one, they constantly describe the main protagonist's relationship with Belldandy as being incredibly slow.

BOY does 25 years of comics give that an entirely new meaning.

To admit though it was rather odd as their relationship on screen seemed fine... Which I don't know if it is meant to be the point or not. As well a few times both of them have bent a bit too far backwards to please the other (Which was handled well once, and was insane in another).

There's something just so nice looking when I watch certain older animes. It makes me saddened by the decline of the shading style of the 80s and 90s

I completely agree. I remember some scenes in Lodoss looking awesome, same with Legend of The Galactic Heroes.

On a related note, The Guyver is such a stupid and yet very entertaining anime from 1989.
Not even the show seems to know why it's called that, considering the series is about genetically mutated monsters and evil corporations. (Gore warning?)

For Spring 2014 anime, this one romcom Boku wa Minna Kawaisou has by far some of the most breathtaking background art going. Man, those colors.

No Game No Life has some pretty great colors too. Possibly the most distinctively colored anime I've watched.

I've heard good things about Hunter x Hunter.
Never got into it though.

I can say the reboot is pretty great. One of the best shounen fighters I've seen. The battles are very fatal and fast and because it's a reboot that's been made years after the original show ended, the manga is already finished and it doesn't have filler or the pacing issues that usually come with shows like it.

There's a lot of episodes though and I never finished. Made it to 50+ I think, but God there's a LOT.

I missed out on a lot of "classic" animoos, from the 80s and such. Recommend me one to watch, preferably something that isn't too long, because I've got a hankering and a lot of the newer stuff isn't calling to me.
