Dang it... where is a good emotionally driven, non-gorefilled anime that either features characters succeeding through strength of character or intelligently written fight scenes that aren't Turn-based?

I'm not sure if I should mention Legend of Galactic Heroes to you or not.

Ohh yeah that has been sitting on my "to watch" pile for a while.

But I completely forgot about it. (I think I didn't watch it at the time because I was finishing Prince Of Tennis... then switched to a detective series because I wanted something not case closed that was close to case closed)

I would have suggested it to Neo, but from his prior statements I'm not sure if he can tolerate the gore level. Even if the anime does censor it.

I mostly want to avoid watching something like Elfen Lied.

Since I know Gorn is VERY popular in anime.

Ohh yeah that is nothing.

Then you should definitely watch Jojo then. It rests on the border between Shonen and Seinen, but replaces the Shonen powerup crap with battles based around creative use of your power and tricking your opponents, and instead of emo whining its full of MANLY FABULOUSNESS and Golden Spirit. And it doesn't have power creep and abandoned side characters as an issue since it's divided into parts that are each their own story so the casts are almost completely swapped out every arc.

Power creep isn't really an issue for me on its own. It is the "abandoned side character" aspect that follows it that starts to bug me.

I'll keep Jojo in mind.

Well you can watch the first series if you want to see what it's like.  The third arc (which is about to be adapted) is meant to be a lot better, though.

I don't know about the others, but I haven't come across much new "gory" anime in a while. Boob-filled stuff is rife, gore is minimized.

 get rid of class 9-3. Pile them all into the other classes.

Overall I found it fun in an unintentional comedy way. Or maybe it was intentional, i dunno.
