Any other good animes/mangas that have a similar trope of "great power but super brief fights or else consequences"? I'm fairly certain there's a trope in TvTropes for this, but I can't find it. Otherwise I'd check the list there.

Try Valvrave. Same original creator as Code Geass, if you liked that might like this. Buyer beware though: some people I know really hated Valvrave, but they also hated Code Geass. Both have over the top ludicrous plot, but the fight visuals are much better in Valvrave than Code Geass.

I'll second this. At least they aren't simple remakes, and everything looks and sounds really good compared to the original.

Sixteen episodes into Kill la Kill and I starting to think I'm watching it more for the music than the actual show >_>

Not that the show is bad, mind. It's just... the sound direction has been rather nice, and like, perfectly keyed in terms of metaphorical visibility. Really enjoying it.

They act surprised when their opponent's mech shows up during some 1 on 1 matches earlier in the show. How did you not see him set the Gunpla? That confused me.

The qualifying rounds made me scratch my head. Especially the part where the Thai dude gets beat in.. Baseball?!! But I thought they drew lots on the weapons? How did they even get paired up?

How did that GAW even make it to the Battle Royale? How does someone win with a bomber? I guess that guy only used it for that fight or something.

I dislike that seemingly all the winners have Gundams. The exception I think is Yuuki. It seems like all the other competitors are only there to get blown up.

How the hell does Reiji beat like five dudes at once in a ball? I feel like they didn't even show that part because they knew it didn't make any sense.

Yuuki reminds me of Char with his switch to becoming a masked character

I like the blond guy who is Yuuki's tech support, because he represents all those interesting R&D characters I liked in the other shows

Ramba Ral as an actual character is the best thing ever. He's even got his Gelgoog custom when he fights Reiji!

The President in charge of the World Tournament is hilarious

I love seeing all the different MS' from all the different shows

Baker rigged the lotto machine to set them together. The matchups between the weapon pairings were predetermined.

A pretty awesome thing about Yuuki is that Master Katsumi Kawaguchi is a real person. He's a famously good builder who's tutorial series can be found on the Gundam Info channel

I don't think the holograms block anything because the show often does a big zoomout when the Plavsky particles dissipate and turn everything blue where you can clearly see both the operators and the fighters.

I concur. I found myself humming the op the other day, including the lyrics, despite me not knowing any competent japanese. Just, y'know, humming the general chord progressions and melodies.

I'd totally buy the official soundtrack if I had the money to spend. Eventually.

It's all the other bits. Like blindy's theme, especially after it shifted. The mother's vocal theme bits. All the other short bits and one offs and longer stuff and just etc., so forth, and so on. There's violins and I swear I heard bagpipes at one point and just all sorts of wonderful junk like that. S'great ♪
