No, they have those, too. I'm pretty sure it's specifically mentioned during the classroom scene, and you see them occasionally among the hordes.

In the days when Sussman was a novice, Minsky once came to him as he sat hacking at the PDP-6.
“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

Eh? My impression was that all of the titans appeared male, which is why the Female Titan (note again the "the") received so much attention.
Well that and the fact that she murdered the hell out of tons of people...

The Female Titan has a feminine physique.
As for the female fodder type being simply androgynous in looks, yea, I can go along with that.

It's not really that surprising, given that (IIRC) the only gender-specific feature we see on the normals are the titans with thick beards.

I think the same applies for the other abberants, they look a lot more toned and masculine than the fairly podgy grunts.

I really am lovin' on some Symphogear. There's nothing much that fun coming out in this season so far. Symphogear 3 is greenlit, though no dates yet.

This scene (youtube) just about sums it up

Chris is the best antagonist, and here's a list of some of her "special attacks". See if you can spot the theme ...

Billion Maiden
Mega Deth Party
Nirvana Gedon
Giga Zeppelin
Red Hot Blaze
Queen's Inferno

In the manga they mention that there is about a 5% rate of female titans, so they are a bit of a rarity regardless. They call the Female Type Titan that because, well, I guess she's the only significant female abnormal yet seen.

To tell the truth, I didn't really like the way the plot unfolded in SnK. "Human tenacity vs. Inhuman Threat" hooked me, then it turned into basically a superpower show. That disappointed me, I feel the premise would have been a lot stronger without the quasi-magical stuff.

Contrast that to Shinsekai Yori, a show I liked a whole lot better: both that and SnK have a post-apocalyptic setting with quasi-magical powers,  but in Shinsekai Yori the powers are integral to the plot: remove the powers and every other main plot point no longer makes sense.

I didn't feel like the SnK plot of humans vs giants needed the powers as a main plot point. It felt like the writer didn't know where to go with the core concept so the powers concept is tacked on top of the "land of the giants" concept.

This.

Dragonball was great at being Dragonball.  We don't also need Eren Jaeger to go Super Saiyan and solve all of his problems.

Have you read the manga, by any chance? Being able to go Super Saiyan actually seems to cause more problems than it solves, when it works at all.

I have, though not for a few months.

If they're doing a full deconstruction then I guess that's pretty cool, but I'm kind of tired of deconstructions without attached reconstructions at this point.  So, I'm going to keep reading for sure... just saying that I really liked the "squad" angle of it, without the power level race situation attached.

Oh, I agree. I'm just saying its not like Eren can super-charge at will and effortlessly slaughter Titans. He still ends up relying on the other characters frequently and quite a few of them are better than he is in normal form.

This seems relevant. I posted it before the series was quite over, IIRC, but it's still mostly true (although I've cut a piece that I've been convinced is debatable). A little rambly, but oh well.

Spoiler: Pretty Spoilery (click to show/hide)

All that said, it's a fantastic series and I haven't been gripped by anything quite as strongly in a very, very long time.

I still need to read the manga.
