The trend with Anime weaknesses TENDS to be that they don't actually have a weakness. They have things they call weaknesses but they either are actually strengths OR they just don't actually apply OR it just immediately stops being a big deal.

It is why I am always surprised when an anime character with a weakness actually has that weakness and that weakness isn't just thrown away after a montage.

yes and it was pretty terrible, imo. mediocre harem mecha show.

though my friend who doesn't watch much anime liked it, which still surprises me. that's.. something, i guess.

I recently started watching anime again, but it's only really been modern 'hit list' anime like Hellsing Ultimate, Sword Art Online or Attack on Titan.
And less antique 'hit list' anime like Ghost in the shell or Ninja Scroll (Neither of which I've watched) or even classic ones like Guren Lagann or whathaveyou.

(To my credit I've seen Berserk recently, but I'm still too chicken to watch the OVA, as I've heard that they all have much more of the soul-twisting gorefest style stuff it's famous for.)

I don't think Code Geass is actually referencing any period of history.  They just made it up as they went along (not that it isn't a great show).

Fate/Zero is another good modern one if you haven't already seen it.
