Just finished my Second run through of 999, getting a brand new bad ending, once again occurring in circumstances completely out of my control.

Holy shit, it's like fucking Jason Voorhees found his way onto this ship and just gutted everybody. Who the hell was that guy?! I guess I'll find out eventually.

And what the hell is with that submarine? It's not at end of the ninth room so I guess it's a clever dead end. But once again, I'm guessing all will be revealed in the bestest ending.

Alright, so I powered through the game three more times trying out different dialogue choices. That's five completions total now.

What in the actual fuck? I only got one more bad end, this time getting merc'ed by the faceless killer again, and the other two were repeats of other bad ends, just from pursuing the same basic goal except from different angles.

In my last playthrough, I thought I was really onto something. Oh Yeah I got this Ice-9 bullshit and I'm learning about that ALLICE and CAS and it looks like I'm gonna peruse the library and uncover some serious shit, then I just get merc'd in Clover's Cuckoo Crazy Killing Carnival again. Fucking goddamnit Junpei, it's not unreasonable to flying tackle a girl you KINDA SORTA think might be concealing a deadly weapon. Especially since this shit's happened before, you should wise up son.

How the hell do I stop Clover from going bonkers? I'm guessing I have to somehow solve the mystery surrounding Snake's murder, but the game has done a pretty damn good job of obfuscating HOW to do that. There's not really any opportunity to go Ace Attorney on these guys.

I suppose the theory the game throws at you is that it's Santa and Seven's doing, but seriously why would they kill Snake? I really liked Snake right off the bat, and Seven's a cool bro.

I suppose it's possible for Ace to have done it if he somehow managed to pocket the 9 bracelet off the dumb dead man from the beginning, but unless Snake or Seven themselves pocketed it first he'd never have a way to get it in the scenario where you force him off the team.

There's also the possibility the Faceless Killer, with all of his or her knowledge of the ship's secret pathways, snatched him up, dragged him into the shower room and then smashed his bracelet to cause a premature detonation.

I have a feeling the dumb clover bookmark thing that Santa tries to force onto you has something to do with it, but I'll be damned if he isn't trying to plant evidence on me, so I always refuse him.

That is, unless it's possible to somehow prevent Snake's death, but I'm pretty sure that's impossible.

Alright Toon, this game is super bullshit I need help. Just contact me in Steam or whereever.

Not to interupt the 999 discussion, but I've been poking around Netflix and found Rin: Daughters of Mnemosyne. Quite short, but it was certainly interesting. Also bloody and the first episode was really gross at one point, but the rest were relatively fine. Has anyone else seen it?

Yeah Toon I'm glad I asked for your help, or I was going to spend alot of time tearing my hair out apparently cause I was WAY WAY WAY off base with what I thought was the correct path.

Not sure if I should continue with this game, seeing as how bullshit arbitrary alot of the background events are.

So yeah, it's super bullshit arbitrary how when you get your little chitchat with Ace and Santa in Room 6, the mysterious killer doesn't appear AND while Clover had the opportunity to go Cuckoo Axe Crazy, she doesn't just because Junpei wasn't there to personally witness her picking up the murder weapon.

COME ON GAME! What's the point of 'starting over with previous knowledge' if none of that knowledge MEANS SHIT?! How am I supposed to Groundhog day my way through the game if none of my prior knowledge gives me any discernible advantage since it's hard to understand when Junpei will suddenly become competent. I mean, seriously, if I don't get to be Bill Murray I might as well get an advantage from having prior knowledge of events instead of having them play out randomly if I have innocuous chitchats with an old man.

Now what do I do?

It's Door 4 -> 7 -> 1.

Accept the bookmark in Door 4.  Give Clover the bookmark in Door 7.  I think everything else will be good then.

Also relax and enjoy the game.  I admit seeing a certain event in VLR drove me crazy though.

Its not IronyOwl, but it does fit the mature rating it was given.

You have two main characters (and also one unrelated to them family line that are somewhat important), and it tends to skip ahead a couple decades per episode past #2. Theres also a third immortal who seems important and has a strange chess set, but have no idea what he's on about until near the very end. Its similar in a vague private investigator sorta way to noir to a point and then isn't. It involves Yggdrasil and some sort of seed/spore/fruit/something from it. The fruitthing causes two different effects, but only the special named kind do anything at all.

Someone else could probably describe this better than I could, really.
