If the dubbers were mildly competent, she'll use the broken English that she uses everywhere else. Heh, on the topic of messy translations, the Japan arc is hilarious.

A bit of a slowpoke on this one, but I happened across it today and the last posting was only a page or two back.

Yeah they have some sense of proper English structure. Doesn't mean you don't occasionally get a laugh out loud section of broken English that shouldn't be broken. Yet it does mean that shows like Excel Saga are able to make jokes out of improper English.

I'm trying to get at your meaning here. If it's about Revy specifically, it's not just a gag for the Japanese audience. It's part of her character; she's half-Chinese and grew up on the streets of some city or another. Doesn't mean it isn't funny, though.

I really liked the ending, and episode 10 did resolve some of my problems (them shooting each other = yes please).  I wanted Walpurgisnacht to be Madoka's final form, which would have tied up the design a bit better.

Honestly, I think it could have been a fantastic show but they picked the wrong viewpoint character.  Take Homura the whole time through, make her super-grizzled, make us feel it's a sham from the very beginning without too much reveal.  The problem is that the majority of the real character development happens behind the scenes... Madoka's character changes quite a bit through her iterations, but it's largely static throughout the current time frame.

Things were so guessable anyway that they might as well have given us more data to begin with.

Not just that, but this is clearly a replay on CCS's Tomoyo and Sakura.  They look almost exactly the same, etc. ... I think that taking Homura as the MC all the way through would have been far more fitting to put pressure on the subversion.

Re: Madoka, I guess they wanted it to be a twist.  Although making it not a twist would have helped distinguish it from that other work that did something similar

Poor Foudoumine school team from Prince of Tennis.

They just can't catch a break in this series. It is like their destiny to lose in the quarter finals.

It just goes to show that if you ever find yourself inside an anime, you MUST gain main character powers. Foudoumine is On-Par with the main character's team and yet they always lose.

So just a tip for the future.

I oddly enough seen the entire first season. It was alright and for the most I am not someone who would get its jokes.

If I had to describe someone who would love the series.... Female Otaku.

The only school slice-of-life show that I've ever been able to watch for more than one episode was Azumanga Daioh, I suspect in part because it instigated a lot of of the related tropes rather than rehashing them. But mostly because it's surrealist humor with a cast full of subtly off personalities.

Bad engrish that grates the ears is half the fun. At least they're trying to improve...unlike some shows where they just pretend all the characters on screen are actually speaking english!

Saw my younger cousins watching some Prince of Tennis where an argument w/ some random punks got resolved with (obviously) a tennis match, where they are shamed & brought to their knees. Someday I'd like to see the bigger bullies just go like:

"How about we solve this with a match/cooking battle/promotional-toy-used in-this-anime/CHILDREN'S CARDGAME?"
"EFF that! EFF You!"
*beats up the protagonists*
"Hah! Try cooking/playing tennis/shuffling now with a broken arm asshat!"
