I wonder... is the entire point of Sayanora Mr. Despair that he thinks he is depressed but he really isn't while his student thinks she is hopelessly happy but she is really hopeless?

Or is it that the Teacher has nothing to really be sad about and yet is depressed yet his student has every reason to be a total wreck and yet is happy to a fault?

Or are both legit interpretations?

I would go with the second.

Nozomu is a pretty negative person.  He finds all the bad or weird qualities of life and points them out while Kafuka or whatever likes to have different more positive interpretations.

For example, you always find the negative qualities of anime and exploit them so hard.  Seriously.

Actually for life in general, anime is just this thread usually.

To be fair Neonivek does watch orders of magnitude worse anime than almost anyone else on this thread.

It is a combination of things
A) I don't want to watch something everyone else is watching... I know it is a negative trait.
B) If I watch a bit of a show or am enticed by the premise I am instantly invested
C) Good shows that I know are really good are intimidating because I feel obligated to like them. So I avoid them. Heck I forgot two REALLY good detective shows I wanted to watch because I avoided them too long.
D) I do honestly like some terrible anime. Master Cooking Boy was awsome just for that. The ultimate Anime Mary Sue who didn't arise from fanfiction (Mind you... Master Cooking Boy wasn't that bad. In fact it was probably good with just a lousy story). That and I have low standards in some areas.
E) I don't like things a lot of other people like. Familiar Zero I DESPISE and that Anime with Kyon, that I can never remember the name of, I also disliked greatly even if I liked a few episodes. Those animes are REALLY popular. Heck I don't even really like Bleach.

Ultimately it is because I can't really find animes I really like and some of the ones I do I avoid while at the same time I am easily invested and often ended up watching an anime to completion if only because I watched the first episode thus slowing down my search to a crawl.

If I wanted to watch more good anime I'd switch to Fairy Tail that I do like for some reason. A lot of people say they would love to be a member of Fairy Tale but I know myself well enough to just KNOW I'd just hate it.

Either way I want to watch good animes...

Though I guess my odd sense of taste doesn't help. A lot of animes I watched had REALLY interesting concepts but most animes with interesting far out concepts have terrible execution.

The Puppeteer kid who cannot speak to others normally but has a puppet do so for him and who ALSO solves mysteries? sounds great! I can imagine it being a psychological thriller as the main character who is traumatized in public has to fight it while solving murders and slowly learning to open up... no wait it was a lack luster anime and the main character doesn't grow or change in anyway.

What was that? a girl who has to deal with the prejudice of her classmates while trying to attempt to live a normal life doing what she loves? Id love to see that, her attempting to rise above the hatred of her classmates and finding love with those not drawn in while just trying to keep it together... No wait that has NOTHING to do with anything.

What was that? a kid who is trying to become a baker who thinks that Japan lacks identity in baking and is thus trying to make the very first "Japan bread"? Goodness I'd love to see that, I'd love to know how baking works and seeing a kid work with a goal against the apathy of a nation. No wait it is a swirling vortex of insanity... Though I can't quite make out if I LIKED the anime or if I HATED it out of control.

What was that? A Girl who joins a new school and gets flirted on by three different boys who gets a fairy who teaches her how to cook? That sounds horrible. No wait, it wasn't so bad.

I don't really like Death Note

Though it was between my sympathy for the characters being outright slaughtered by Kira, who couldn't do ANYTHING to stop him anyway, and the fact that I had people consider Kira just in what he was doing (In real life).

Which frustrated me as I saw absolutely NO ambiguity in Kira's actions. He was evil. The idea that the most vocal people were the ones who thought that the slaughter of people who are accused of crimes or people who everyone "Just knows are the ones responsible" as just really killed it for me.

Mind you it is hardly a perfect anime beyond this. Misa demonstrates the audiance the show caters to.

You've really got to get out from under these. The first and last ones basically mean that you refuse to watch anything you've got good reason to believe is good.

The middle one kind of explains why you complain so much, since you're evidently trapped in a living hell from which there is no escape with alarming frequency.

Well, no accounting for taste, but "popular" isn't a very good metric of "good" anyway unless you happen to be very, very typical. Even really popular things probably aren't liked by all the same people, unless they're just going with the flow and would be fine with whatever.

Ok I am going to eliminate animes where the main characters ARE women (or a woman). Which is what I meant by "Arn't the main character".

Yeah. I know. Totally already did that.

Essentially removing over half your list (In Slayers Lina is the main character,

Slayers (Luna, LoN (arguably a chick))

Not talking about Lina.

Negima has two female leads and one male lead, Mahou is all female leads, and Sensei has a female lead).

... What? Did you just dissect "Mahou Sensei Negima/Magister Negi Magi!" into different series? I was talking about only that specific anime, and I was actually referring to the manga instead, where the powers of the entire rest of the ridiculously huge class of girls are further explored. They are definitely not worthless. No idea what you're actually referring to here though.

No comment on Soul Eater or Code Geass?

I have to say I loved Death Note, at least the manga. I didn't like the anime very much for some reason. But the first half of the manga is absolutely brilliant, plot wise and art wise.

And how can you not see ambiguity in Kira? He doesn't act out of self interest, he tries to use the death note to create a crime free utopia. The way he goes about is quite ambiguous I grant you but you can't deny his goal is noble?
As for the supporters of Kira, imagine a friend of yours is killed, the murderer is either acquitted because of lack of proof or gets 15 years in Prison. You then learn that an "entity" known as Kira kills him afterwards, wouldn't you rejoice? It might not be politically correct(which is clearly shown in the manga) but people would definitely cheer him on!
