This may be the worst anime I've ever scene

However, I seem to be enjoying excel saga.

Am I the only one who on seeing the word "high school" in an anime's description instantly stops reading and looks for something else?

I am adopting this policy.

I admit I broke that rule to watch Angel Beats! but it's not exactly playing it straight, and good enough that it doesn't matter.

Also, I started watching Arakawa Under The Bridge and I can safely say this is the weirdest show I've seen in months, if not this year.

Since I've been seeing it on Mangaupdates a lot I started reading Btooom!.  I'm on volume two and I'm enjoying it so far.  It's a little typical in places but I don't mind.

I'm also on volume seven of Ubel Blatt, which has been fairly awesome.  I see no problem here!

The word "average" also tends to AUTO_NOPE for me. "Until he meets" would be another one, except that if it doesn't have either of the other two there's still a decent chance.

So I've been done reading Black Lagoon for a while (and zomg, wai no moar release?), and immediately started reading Spice and Wolf, and am about halfway through it.

I'm about 1/3 of the way through watching K-On!!. The only thing I consistently think is "WTFSENSEI." Seriously. Wtf. I'm still enjoying it, but it's pretty ridiculous at times.

I watch everything, regardless of how many tropes are in the description, because I have nothing else better to do. I don't really mind repetitive themes in anime, though. Anime is fucking built on repetitive themes.

You guys are trying  your best to make me feel bad about liking the Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. Which fits said description perfectly. except for the main character's specialness. What makes him special is that he is not special in any way whatsoever.

But...High School of the Dead is one of my favorite anime. You can't just skip anything with "high school" in the description!

Probably about 1/3 or 1/2 of series I enjoyed had a high school and ordinary people in it.
One had a college though which is always neat.

Daaaaaaaamn.  Japanzai scanlate a new Btooom! chapter every single day.  These guys are nuts.  They're going to catch up in no time.  I see no problem with this development.

Well, you'll avoid a lot more bad series than good ones by avoiding all series with "high school" in the descritpion.
