Another AMV, this one about The Girl Who Leapt Through Time.  Really well done, really messes with your head.

Hey does anyone other them me uttarly HATE the "He wasn't trying" retrospect done in anime?

It annoys me to no end... it is basically used for a "Yes we know he was defeated before but he wasn't trying so you still have to take him seriously"

In fact in one anime they actually managed to use it TWICE in a span of two episodes (Dang it Yakkate Japan!!!)

Here is a game!

The worst "Actually that time I wasn't trying" Moment you can think of in an anime.

The rule of thumb is they MUST have been defeated at the time. This isn't a "I wasn't trying" and then they kick their butt in the very same battle. This is the person was defeated but "he wasn't trying" and thus still needs to be taken seriously when the battle happens again.

Jeez, this seems to happen so often in DBZ and Bleach (though it's all in the same battle so it doesn't really apply). It's all like "I wasn't trying, fool." "NO, FOOL, IT IS I WHO WAS NOT TRYING!" "I OBJECT! I AM THE ONE WHO WAS NEVER TRYING, EVER!" etc. until the battle ends and you feel like you've wasted your time.

I can't actually think of a specific situation where the battle ended, someone was defeated, and then the defeated person said they were not trying...

I've never seen any anime, Vector suggested I might do so, what shall I watch?  :P

He's lying--he's seen GitS, hehe.

I, of course, recommend the Saikano manga :3

NO! NOT SAIKANO! JUST SLIT YOUR WRISTS NOW AND SAVE YOURSELF THE BUILD-UP!

I'm kidding. Sort of. <.<
Saikano should definitely be a part of some sort of Emotional Trauma Cocktail Challenge for watching anime. Sort of like a drinking game, but it destroys your soul instead of your kidneys.

I can only really think of having someone watch Strait Jacket, go right into the Evangelion anime series, straight into the End of Evangelion movie, then straight into reading Saikano.

Then there's be sort of a rehab thing, where you ease back into emotional health by watching Gurren Lagann and going to something even more ridiculous like Korewa Zombie Desuka!? or The Demon Lord In The Back Row (Or even P&SwG)

This idea definitely needs work though. Not enough substance. Maybe Death Note -> Strait Jacket -> rest?

If you haven't already, you should watch Miyazaki's movies.

I'd have to agree with this part. I won't talk about the dubs because Howl's Moving Castle is one of the few dubbed shows I actually have nice things to say about. This is something that cannot occur because my little anti-dub brain simply won't allow it. :p [Insert passive aggressive rant about the dubbing industry here] [insert utopic delusion about how I think it should work here][insert not so passive aggressive comment here]

Emotional Trauma Cocktail Challenge

Grave of the Fireflies.

-poutyface- That was one of my first anime I watched, and can consiously remember, too. I was like 6 or something at the time.

Anyways, what's the most messed up/depressing/traumatic/soul-destroying manga you've read? I feel like soul destruction, but my only laptop isn't good enough for anime and I will not have internet for a few days.

SAIKANO.

Second place goes to the Evangelion manga. Gunslinger Girl gets pretty bad at times too (I haven't had the connection to keep up to date with it).

Yeah the NGE manga gets really fucked up, worse than the anime in some parts.  Especially one part.

As for soul-crushing?  Higanbana no Saku Yoru ni would work.  I really recommend not reading it though, only like the first volume is translated anyway.

It's actually the next visual novel 07th Expansion will be doing.  I have no idea how that will end.

Definitely Bokurano for me. I don't read much manga.
Hehe, I've heard of that series forever.  The synopsis reminds me of NGE's plot and the genres line up.  I'll have to read it sometime.

What manga is that?
Saitama Chainsaw Girl
http://www.mangaupdates.com/series.html?id=31393
She gets to use their family's skill......at school.......on pretty much everyone there...cuz' you know, highschool problems and all. It's pretty short and I recommend reading it as a "break" of sorts since it simply falls in the "interesting distraction" category.

Also just read Otoyomegatari. Quite nice. Very...hmm...I guess I'll chose the word "cultural".

Sounds good.  I planned on reading it anyway.  You're right about some anime adaptions having good OPs and EDs though even if the rest is less entertaining.  Higurashi's OP and Umineko's ED are awesome.

THIS WEEK ON iDOLM@STER SUMMARIZED

OP
IORI IORI IORI IORI IORI IORI IORI IORI IORI IORI IORI IORI IORI IORI IORI IORI IORI
PRODUCER-SAN GENERALLY BEING COOL
PON KYU PON
FUCK YES INSERT SONG
TENNIS BALLS
MIKI IS STILL THE BEST
IORI ED
SO MANY HEART ATTACKS THAT I HAVE THE HOSPITAL ON SPEED DIAL

Judging from the ED focusing on Iori, it's going to have one for each of the girls as expected. Time flies so fast when watching this show... Also, that group picture.

In other news, Dantalian no Shoka is a very pretty looking, very well animated mystery show by Gainax that aired last night. I don't usually start on how good shows look, but holy shit. They've blended live-action backdrops with animation, and it works so fucking well. Just look at these picture links. It's possibly animated even better than Blood-C. It's set in England, and it's about a guy who inherits a mansion from his grandfather, which has an unexpected girl living in it. She's a gateway to some other world that holds nine hundred thousand prohibited books of power. The style of the show is clearly ment to be quite gothic and creepy, I think it works quite well. Dalian (the girl) is very cute, the whole shutin who reads books all day reminds me of Victorique from Gosick and also a bit of Alice from Kamisama no Memochou, another airing show. I prefer Dalian to those two, though. All in all, I wasn't expecting much, so I'm pleasantly surprised by this show.

Season's shows have all aired, so here's my impressions on them as well as for last season's shows that are still going.

Natsume Yuujinchou San: It's Natsume. GLORIOUS.
Yuru Yuri: Heart attack fodder, anything with Yuri in the title has my watch.
Kaitou Tenshi Twin Angel: Pretty shitty, but still cute. Second ep suddenly introduces the Kugyuu voiced main character (!?)
Steins;Gate: Easily one of the best currently airing shows. Every new episode is fantastic.
Kaiji 2: See the above Steins;Gate description. The same applies here. Ep15's scene with Kaiji's fingers, holy fucking shit. ざわ‥
Kamisama Dolls: The adventures of titmonster, genericguy, cuteloli and QBrobot. Half decent, but still no fucking clue what's happening.
Double-J: Third episode was pretty shitty
Morita-san wa Mukuchi: Only 3 minutes ;_;
Nyanpire: It's 4 minutes long. Features a vampire cat and a samurai cat. Yep.
No.6: Second episode was way better than the first.
Usagi Drop: Fantastic.
Blood-C: Second episode subs where? First was good.
THE iDOLM@STER: HHNNNNNNNNGG. Miki is the best.
Mayo Chiki: Fairly meh, but it has a reverse trap butler and her sadist master.
Baka to Test 2: Never understood how loved this is. Tries too hard to be a SHAFT show. Hideyoshi, however...
Mawaru Penguindrum: Still pretty cool, second ep was great.
Ro-Kyu-Bu: First episode was lolis playing basketball, second was suddenly dorama
Itsuka Tenma no Kuro Usagi: By DnYnD writer, so will be OK. Fanservice everywhere, guess they learned that DnYnD sold about 4 blurays.
Dantalian no Shoka: Seems really cool, I like the setting.
Nekogami Yaoyorozu: Touhou-ey feel, as to be expected since the writer is only known as part of a Touhou doujinshi circle. Very cute.
Kamisama no Memo-chou: Pretty good, especially for a JCStaff show. Ep2 is next week.
Nichijou: Average in the laughs department, but sufficiently weird enough to keep me loving it. The animation is godly.
Ikoku Meiro no Croisée: Calm and cool. French Aria minus gondolas.
Sacred Seven: Second ep was another rollercoaster of mediocre.
Hanasaku Iroha: Lost some of it's steam between ep 3-9, but it's really picked up now.
Suite Pretty Cure♪: LETS PLAY PRECURE MODULATION

Man every post you make is a huge ass list full of everything.  I could never follow so many things at once.  I like how you're always doing new things though.  I need to check out Dantalian no Shoka sometime.

Gintama is like 200 episodes long, I've never got around to watching it.

Tiger & Bunny sold so well that they are pretty much redrawing the whole fucking show for the blurays, as well as fixing the monumentally derpy CG. It's not my usual kind of show, so I just decided to wait for them and marathon it later.
