I feel the same way about the deliberate angles of Kallen's cockpit... but I mean, c'mon. She's pretty hot. It's almost like it's necessary. If you really want to get sick of fanservice, watch any episode of Rosario + Vampire Capu 2. I bet you won't last an entire episode. Really a shame, since the manga is really cool and doesn't suffer from it.
Kallen thought her mother (and the subservient Japanese people by extension) was a weak person, the type of person who encourages Brittania to be conquerors, since everyone they take over just kneels down. She's a fighter at heart, and from her point of view it was disgusting behavior.

I actually had to watch the Nina thing like three times in a row. First time, I couldn't tell what was going on since it was dark. Second time, I was like "Wait, REALLY? Are you serious? Are you really telling me that they told that in this anime!?" The third time I just waited a moment, shrugged, then went on with the show. I was really impressed that they took the mature rating to heart without doing something horribly blatant (I mean it was, it just wasn't a hentai scene, if that makes sense). It also serves to actually deepen her character, because she's one of the most worthless in the series, and shows people just what her deal is about Euphie. At times, viewers might have said "What, is she an obsessed, geeky lesbo girl?" That scene responded with "Yes, yes she is. That's who she is. Gtfover it."
