How "well done" is Umineko as an anime?
Bad as an adaptation of the material (there's kindof just too much stuff for a 26 episode series and the fact that it's Deen doesn't really help).  YMMV as to whether it's enjoyable in spite of screwing up the source material and having some very questionable pieces of animation (or possibly because of having some very poor animation).

The main redeeming feature for me is that it has the best ED ever.

Finished Higurashi Kai and Rei anime sometime ago and I've seen the 1st season a long time ago but missed a lot of episodes but I still enjoyed the series overall. Since I haven't played the VN's yet, will I be able to enjoy it enough in it's adapted form as well? Or fans who've played the source material too distracted by alterations/changes?
The Higurashi anime's pretty true to the original.  Just... without the psychological.  Which gives a really weird impression, since about 70% of the third arc is psychological (the result is that the main character's actions make no sense at all).

I enjoyed it enough although I have no idea how non-VN readers are suppose to understand ANYTHING.  At least in the Higurashi anime you can get an understanding even without the characters thoughts and cut dialogue.  Although one gripe I have with both the Umineko and Higurashi anime is a lot of the suspense is gone when dramatic things happen one after another.  You need some 'creep time' to "relax" a bit inbetween.

Still no mention of Steins;Gate?
Dammit, guys! Am I the only MADDO SCIENTIST here?
I've downloaded the first episode awhile ago, however the fact there's a VN that I could be reading instead or the many other things I have on my list to do before Steins;Gate makes it impossible to do now.  If you really want some commotion about it go on the Animesuki forums or similar.

Jimang is such a hardcore dude.

Have you listened to other Sound Horizon albums?

I have.  The dude looks different in every one.

The cover art for the ED La divina tragedia is pretty awesome.  I'm sure you've seen it but for others:

It is easy enough to understand, though understanding complex plots are rather easy for me, it is just that the anime absolutely does NOT hold your hand whatsoever... Even when it really should. You will often be wondering if something is really incapable of being understood, as the anime doesn't tell you squat, or if it was hinted at through someone else's actions.

Basically watching Umineko is like being back in highschool with your teacher telling you what a Shakespear play meant (and I still hate Titus Andronicus)

It is an anime that actually sort of could use a heaping helping of exposition. Though from what I understand the Visual Novels do hold your hand a lot more and explain quite a bit dirrectly. In the end giving it a different feel. I sort of appreciate that you have to do a lot of the work/thinking yourself... One problem is it makes many of the "games" seem quite soul draining.

If the Umineko VN actually "holds your hand" then it does so by confusing the hell out of you and making you wonder if the hand is even real, if it's trying to help you, or if it's even a hand in the first place.

Do any of you guys read Yotsuba&?

It's like, therapeutic.
Yotsuba&! was pretty much my first manga besides Beet the Vandal Buster. Got me into manga, before that I pretty much just watched anime.

I kinda tend toward manga and such currently.  Maybe when a really really interesting anime comes around and when I have more time...

Has anyone watched the Zone of the Enders anime?  It's based on a Kojima game, and I remember watching it 7 years ago and liking it more than I thought I should have.  Neat characterization, sexually awkward robot designs, etc.

Just wondering if anyone else had every stumbled into it.

It holds your hand by showing you every single possible detail about what is happening at any moment.

So it holds your hand in the opposite way the anime does.

The anime doesn't tell you squat. The Visual Novel tells you absolutely freeken everything!

Your guarenteed to know what is going on in the Visual novel.

I'm watching it, and it's getting progressively better and better. Episode 11 was bordering on Kaiji-levels of tenseness.

They were pretty fun. They're making an HD remake for the PS3, might as well sit tight for that.
