Are there currently only 25 episodes of the Berzerk anime? Or am I missing something? Because the anime ending left way too much of a cliffhanger for me.

I finished playing Witches & Woodlands which is a fan game based on Umineko.  It's recommended you only play it if you've already played up to episode 6 of Umineko first.  Once you have though it's a pretty hilarious fan game (fanfiction you can say) that's broken up into three parts.  Part one is okay, part two is good, and part three is pretty awesome.

What I'm remembering is what I believe to be the very first encounter with the trolls. They're just traveling on a country road, and they're attacked by some random trolls. That, in my mind, cements the moment when the huge downward slope happens for me. Just everything after that is supremely unsatisfying.

Also, Puck. I just remembered Puck, and he made every scene that he was in worse in one way or another. Worst comic relief character ever. He didn't even start as a comic relief character, more like a mischievous companion, and his personality just flattened itself somewhere along the line.

The anime is nothing compared to the manga. If you like the anime, I would definitely read it.

Oh yeah, and I watched two more eps of Godannar just today. I have to say that I really love the opening them, so catchy.

Actually, the music for every scene of every ep I've seen thus far has been excellent. Nothing is left without awesome music.

I have to say, that this show is hammy to the extreme, but it does it so well that I'm becoming infatuated with it.

Hmm, I didn't remember any drop in quality after this event.
Sure, you could say that putting more focus on the side characters was a bad thing and in some cases I wouldn't disagree, like in case of this noblewoman. Most of the time I enjoyed the insight though.
So what exactly did change for you? The pace? The quality of the content? Artstyle?

And yeah Puck can be annoying (I prefered the second fairy), but the story is serious enough by itself, so its tolerable.

It is an issue some authors have.

There are enjoyable annoying characters.

Then there are annoying annoying character.

It can be tough to make a character who is supposed to be annoying, but not to the audiance themselves.

Perhaps I shouldn't say it was the quality that suffered, but the way the story was handled that did, for me atleast. Pre-eclipse, the story was a semi-realistic look at a medieval realm that focused on political intrigue, Guts' personal struggles, and sparse but excellent displays of violence and carnage. There was something else though, something that made the whole story for me: the vague but definite hand of supernatural forces working details in the background.

As time went on though, it would seem that the supernatural becomes less mysterious, and more noticeable and explained. The point that I described was the moment, in my mind, when the mystery of magic was abandoned completely. Trolls are the most generic and uninteresting enemies in the entire story, and we had a literal magic girl by that time.

It's just that the allure was gone, it was just Guts' crazed quest for revenge, some watered down side characters, and Griffith being his super demon god self. Supernatural things were around every corner, and it wasn't special anymore. Overall, it just felt like all the things I found interesting were being pureed, and minced, and made into something generic and uninteresting.

Serpico was rather uninteresting, until he dueled Guts. Hope he keeps it up, as the story continues.

Also I'd say the last few chapters lost a lot of the pacing. Somewhere after Guts got the berserk armor I believe.
The encounter against the apostel back then, was the last important fight until now I believe.
Griffith versus Emperor, was just pathetic...

Once I'm done with my current manga, I should reread it.
Already have some trouble to put the events in chronological order...

Yes, it does speak heavily of my interests and priorities when looking for entertainment. I enjoy things most when they excite my imagination, and I can forgive the content if the spectacle of the matter is pleasing.

A western/horror/dark fantasy mix. However it might fall into the category you put the later Berserk chapters in.
