Yeah but unfortunately a new Umineko episode likely won't mean new Umineko anime episodes.

Though I am still half convinced the lack of ending was intentional.
Eh... probably.  The second series is longer and probably more difficult to adapt in places (it'd be better just to rewrite quite a lot of it).

Lack of ending probably was intentional - you don't usually end a series if you're planning on making another 4 games.  Although there is a fanmade ending to the anime which is more faithful to the original.

Ehh unless it is a happy ending... I guess I am not too interested.

Umineko kinda has no respect for their own characters.

Often the anime seemed like it took place in Hell where the characters were just tortured for eternity.

So, anyone got any unbiased opinions about decent anime movies / series? I've tried Googlnig this but all I get is a bunch of fans bigging up their own "wonderful" series.

I've enjoyed Elfen Lied, Death Note, .hack//, Cowboy Bebop and all Studio Ghibli movies. I've not enjoyed (but have watched some of) Naruto and Fullmetal Alchemist.

Any suggestions? Just throw at me whatever you find enjoyable as long as it's not really, really trite (hi Naruto).

Thanks in advance, ladies and gents. :P

Anyone care to help, please?

My opinions are biased, but here you go.

Kino's Journey.
Dragonball (manga only, not official translation)
Last Exile.
Wolf's Rain.
Mushihi.
Sayonara, Zetsubou Sensei.
Saikano (:D)
Neon Genesis Evangelion
Samurai Champloo

Mebbe that'll get you started.

Try the Brotherhood adaption of FMA if you don't mean that in the first place.  Darker than Black too and stuff.
I honestly have no idea.
Then check!  It's pretty easy to tell just by watching the first episode of FMA: Brotherhood.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH

...No.

In any case, the scenario you just described may not be too far away from the truth.

RF, you need to check out Satoshi Kon's movies as well. Perfect Blue, Tokyo Godfathers, Millennium Actress (Amazing), Paprika, Paranoia Agent, and all that stuff.

RF, It's hard to have "unbiased opinions" about something that's a matter of taste  :-\ You seem to like serious stuff with some fantasy/sci-fi elements, with a no-shonen caveat? I guess I'll just go ahead and recommend some of the stuff I always recommend.

Short Series :
Baccano! : Action/Suspense series that takes place in 1930's America, about immortals on a train.
Serial Experiments Lain : Suspense/Mindfuck series about a little girl and the intertubes.
Kemonozume : Action/Romance/??? series about flesh eating demons.
Kino no Tabi : Introspective sort of Adventure/Drama series about a girl who wanders around and does things.

Movies :
Dead Leaves : Jailbreak on the moon. One of the characters has a drill for a penis.
Vampire Hunter D Bloodlust : Drinking Game - Take a shot every time something is impaled, bisected, or explodes.
Perfect Blue : YOU WILL NEVER SLEEP AGAIN

Yeah. The anime hints that it actually is almost pretty much this.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The problem is... unless it is a happy ending... it is just the same old. It wouldn't represent a change at all.

Umineko Chiru kinda changes things up quite a bit though.  Although I guess saying anything specific is a spoiler.

If in 6 months there are no new anime episodes... say so.

Urgh, the size and placement of the female characters eyes in Clannad is horrible.

And apparently they are supposed to signalize naivety and/or weak-willedness.
Exceptions are the irritable one, she gets the same eyes as the male characters and the one who can adjust their personality according to the situation, her eyes are adaptable.

That's how I see it.
I'll try a couple more episodes, but I fear we won't get along well...
For me, Clannad only really became enjoyable in After Story. And it's mostly because Sunohara.

It just might not be your cup of tea though. The series as a whole is pretty overdramatic.

Well, I enjoyed the romance in Welcome to the N.H.K. and Spice and Wolf.
I was looking for something equally good/similar and people suggested Clannad, which according to them is the king of romance/drama.

Maybe I simply dislike the high school scenario...
Well, but I still have the Spice and Wolf manga, so I have some time to find something new...

Clannad did have a lot of cliche parts, and until After Story its as generic as harems get. But once After Story was done, I had cried several swimming pools worth of tears.

After Story was nice, because Tomoya turns into a good character.
