Hahaha, why the hell did you watch the Umineko anime first?  It doesn't make any sense unless you actually have played the VNs beforehand.

I watched the first episode of Sakura Taisen: Le Nouveau Paris. The first of three.

I am extremely happy that this is the series to go to if you want just ridiculous, over-the-top steampunk mecha awesome girl squad set in a re-imagined 1920's Paris.

I can definitely respect a show that abandons logic and common sense in favor of providing the most bizarrely entertaining experience that can be seen. Same to it's canonical sequel, which I saw earlier this year, Sakura Taisen: New York.

From the soul sucking? definately. It sucked all emotion from me, I feel nothing.

From not understanding it... Not so much.

With Ange because her narration involved a LOT of time back and forth to the point where it was hard to tell the difference between flashback and what was actually happening.

Though abstract thinking is somewhat of a strong suit of mine. I can still follow it quite well and have predicted one plot twist rather in advance (mostly by interpreting it litterally).

I am not sure if I'd call it a good anime just yet. I'd have to see how it ends because if it ends the way it is now then it is a pure soul sucking anime that sort of spits on its own characters.

I haven't played the games either actually, but I still liked it.
Though I haven't finished. I know I should get around to playing the VNs and Higurashi as well sometime.

I'm on game 4 of Higurashi now.  Game 1 of Higurashi they only do in 4 episodes in the anime.  I would have to say you see about 1/4 of the VN through the anime.  And it's not just inner thoughts either!  Scenes are gone!  Whole major scenes are gone in both Higurashi and Umineko!  They pretty much just keep enough so you can follow the plot.

The OP for the Higurashi anime is really amazing though.

The anime stops at episode 4 of the Visual Novels.  They really do just stop at the half way point of the series and it probably won't ever be concluded that way either.  I have to wait for Witch Hunt to translate episode 8 of the VN though.  :[  It's the finale episode dammit.

To admit though... It having absolutely no ending or even a worthwhile conclusion of some sort...

Makes absolutely ALL sense for that anime. Its goal is to steal your soul, what better way then to take away any sort of ctharsis you could obtain from it?
