I mean I find it creepy because it is like a depressing show trying to pretend to be light hearted.

Nothing ever goes right or is resolved and any sort of resolution reached is worse in a completely different way.

Isn't that supposed to be the humor of it?
Life is horrible and it only gets worse is sort of the theme of the show.
I admit there was one scene that actually freaked me out, since I was almost asleep and I did not expect it at all.

Doubt was ok I guess.  Why keep splitting up though goddamn.  Ending was rather silly, but I did predict the final twist from the second chapter so eh (although I got everything else wrong).

Incidentally, the 3rd Higurashi VN seems to be much better than the anime equivalent.  Something which I thought seemed random and unmotivated in the anime got a lot of attention here.

Anyways... I just started reading this thread, and was working backwards, and wanted to mention a couple things relevant to me.  First of all, Fractale is awesome.  It's like they made a list of all the things I like and then made an anime from it.  So much joy and mystery and sadness.  And Nessa.  But Nessa is JOY.

Also, there sure is a lot of bleach in here. I think I quit following it awhile ago, right at the end of the first filler arc, which I seem to feel completely different about from most people.  I thought the characters were cool, and was impressed that they actually died.  Actually, I left shortly after that, when the one character who had been actually killed up until the arc started turned out to not actually have been killed.  Plus, I liked it when things were in the real world.  That's what I think of Bleach, though I liked it while I watched it.  And it is fun when all I want is flashy attacks.

Are there any good anime along the lines of Full metal alchemist brotherhood (i.e good balance of action/characters/story) out there, preferably not mecha as I think I have seen the best of those.

Anything like legend of galatic heroes would also be cool.

Man I don't know if you'll be able to find another show like Brotherhood.  It was made exceptionally well with an (almost) entirely complete adaption in a not too long amount of episodes (64) with no filler.  It also helps the source material BONES worked on is great as well, Hiromu Arakawa is to thank for that.

I'm thinking Code Geass, simply because "Good balance of Action/Characters/Story." The only problem with that is that it does have Mecha. The focus isn't mecha, though, it's the tale of one young man on a quest to fuck the world, similar to Death Note but less psychological and more strategical. Technology in the world of Code Geass has just evolved to the point of Mechanized Infantry (literally). You still see personnel infantry and actual tanks and such, but they are pretty terrible compared to Knightmare Frames.
