Hmm I've watched 3-4 episodes of it some time ago, but it failed to engross me.
Can I expect it's style/plot/pace to change in the course of time?

Just watched 14 episodes of One Piece in a row. Wow. I'm up to episode 62 right now. Might reserve some more time to watch through tomorrow, or over the next week.

Straw Hats are riding down the mountain into the Grand Line, where I'm at.

I've been putting off watching more episodes for a good while. Finally had the time watch some more again. I keep forgetting how awesome that show is.

Also came as a bit of a shock that the club chick that teamed up with Buggy was the same monstrous woman from the first episodes. Those devil fruits can do a number on someone. Of course, at the cost of being able to swim or float.

After 101 episodes so far, I'd say it's worth the effort to watch One Piece.  I'm enjoying it so much that I know I'll be depressed when it's over with.

It's not an "over the weekend" kinda show to watch.  If you want to shorten it by a bit read the manga.  You'd probably get through the story twice as fast timewise.

It's rather consistent w/r to style. There's a major change of focus in the plot around mid-length, and the meandering, contemplative pace gets only sometimes interrupted by bursts of violent energy - which is how it should be in my opinion.
This one is, somewhat similar to EP, very heavy on philosophy, only it doesn't force-feed it to viewers, leaving them to notice all the nuanced references themselves.
 
But I'd suppose that if you didn't like the first episodes, it's rather likely that you won't like the rest.
