Probably because that's the majority market for most anime.  Anyone who watches for the story is a bonus.

The fanservice pisses me off, if I wanted porn there is plenty of that elsewhere.
It's completely unnecessary and only detracts from the story, and it's the main cause of people thinking all people who watch anime are complete perverts.

Especially when it's in shows aimed for adults, there is seriously no need for that.

A long time ago, I actually convinced myself to watch some Agent Aika, aka the panty-shot show. So I watched it, and I remember thinking thusly: "This show is actually pretty good, too bad it's bogged down by it's attempts to be softcore porn".

Agent Aika is totally beyond panty-fighter. When your main character gets topless in ever episode that's basically softcore.

Yeah, I've always kinda found fanservice insulting. You've already done the fans a service by giving them a good show to watch, don't go overboard and degrade your characters. I just can't take a woman seriously if I see her panties in my face every ten minutes.

There are at least good animes with minimal fanservice. I dare you to try to find a visual novel without any.

Fanservice can be annoying, but it's worse when the manga the anime is based on had little to no fanservice but the anime turns it into a panty-shot show, while also derailing the plot of the manga >.>

Just watched the 2 movies, sooo good. On episode 2 of the first set of episodes now.

The most annoying bit is that I am watching it on megavideo atm, so every 62 minutes it stops what I'm watching and yells YOU SHALL NOT PASS until I wait an hour. Good thing I have another computer to switch to, heh.

Honestly I'd say "If your series isn't about women then expect all competent women to be dead, gone, or useless by the time the series ends" if I wasn't sure that there is an anime somewhere that contradicts this statement.

True, even the shoujo stuff sometimes has incompetent female characters, or they're at least completely dependent on men for happiness.

Action girl stuff like GITS is an exception, but then we get back into fanservice.

The worst IMO is how they dress her in the episodes... The occasional nude scenes in the movie are fine; hey, it's sci-fi, that sort of thing is to be expected. But that she wears nothing but underwear and maybe a jacket to work is somewhat silly...

How do you guys get a hold of the anime anyway? I'm probably not going to watch on t.v. if I do, and I don't feel like downloading seasons through uTorrent.
