That is a good question because it's really bad. Especially in the movie.

Yeah, the show is mostly bad for boob-shots.  There's all sorts of things where they keep the camera steady so that Motoko "just happens" to bend over, or so that her face is mostly obscured and you get a nice faceful of ass, waist, upper thighs, and tits.  Even when she's talking.

Of course, the manga is even worse.

There seems to be a wide diversity of how this kind of Fanservice takes form

From the "My eyes eyes up here"
To the spring loaded breasts (This bugs me the most actually... Marchen Romance is probably around the worst in this respect)

It still bugs me. Not because I am against anything sexual mind you, but because it is just crazy. Drawing attention to something that isn't actually contributing to the scene. It is like every single scene is a seduction scene or a photo-shoot, or as JoshuaFH will say in the future: Softcore porn.

I mean, just look at the vehicle the characters in Ghost in a Shell ride. They are specifically built to force women into doggy style.

A long time ago, I actually convinced myself to watch some Agent Aika, aka the panty-shot show. So I watched it, and I remember thinking thusly: "This show is actually pretty good, too bad it's bogged down by it's attempts to be softcore porn".
