Welp, I've recently watched Avatar: The Last Airbender movie.
And, before I begin, I must clearly state that I am not on that bandwagon of where its popular to hate M. Night gibberish. Hes not my cup of director. Most of his films I'm apathetic toward. However, I do enjoy Unbreakable greatly.
Secondly, this post will probably contain some spoilers to A:TLA book one water/season one. So, read at yer own risk.
*clears throat*
What the hell M. Night Gibberish! Really? Really? I mean, I was worried and reserved because he never done a story like this before. And how was he really going to compress 8hrs of story into 2hrs (Well, 90 minuets, even worse.)
Overall, I was fine with the change of tone for the live action film. I was hopefully about that. One of my minor complaints of the excellent series, is that I wish it was for an older audience. I thought M. Knight (Yes, I'll be switching back and forth between night and knight.) So yea. I was fine with the change of Soka, and I was reserved with the change to Aang. *coughs* I mean, Ung. As the show for three years apparently mispronounced the names.
M. Night murdered Aang, er Ung. Completely gutted the character. Katara was an embodied narrator. Season One, she did a lot of ass kicking things. Was any of it presented? No? Where was her character development? I don't know?
Heck, on the note of character development where was anyone character development? Not behind the fridge. I checked.
The pacing was so freaking fast. Just vomiting the plot exposition. Bleh. Just constantly spewing the plot, left and right. Constantly telling us the store instead of showing us the story.
The fighting. Bleh. Especially the background fighters. Total bleh.
And almost none of the kid actors could act. Soka couldn't act, and he in three other triple a release movies. The Nothern Watertribe princess could act though. I *think* Zuko could act.
Speaking of Zuko, what a weak sauce scar. Oh, poor Zuku and his barely noticeable scar. Whatever.
Overall D+ C- movie for me, and a D to D- for fans of the series.
