What is Vandread like? How mature is it, seinen or shonen?

Shounen 100%. It's not really bad shounen, though. If you're kind of into mecha and feel like something that's sort of generic, then it's worth a shot. On the flip side, something like Kishin Taisen Gigantic Formula handles its shounen pretty well and is markedly less generic.

Just finished Baccano, and I have a bit of a different opinion than Josh.

For starters, I actually liked how it jumped around, especially since it makes some sense. The premise is two people discussing the events and trying to figure out what happened. Maybe I liked it because I didn't have trouble keeping track of the timeline.

I completely agree that Isaac and Miria were beautifully written, and Ladd is awesome. I disagree on Vino though, I found him to essentially be a calmer, more together Ladd. Both have a rather serious god complex and both love killing, though Ladd is more... insane, whereas Vino is a more controlled madness. Could be he appealed to the more sadistic side of me.
Oh, and I thought Jacuzzi and Nice were just a couple, not married. A rather unconventional relationship, considering that both of them are awkward in that area.

I also enjoyed that the setting was rather unique in anime; I can't be the only one tired of everything taking place in just Japan. And the Prohibition Era is a rather unused setting for stories.

Overall, I loved it and wish they would make a second season.

True, I might not get or understand all the references right away, but I enjoy reading up on that stuff.

That's one of the problems with Detective Conan, you get to a point where everybody should be incredibly jaded.

Though the worst murder mystery I've seen in anime I disliked greatly for one reason.

One twin attempted to kill the other when the second twin ended up killing her in self-defense. She then created an elaborate murder trick to make it seem like her twin sister was killed by an unknown person who jumped through the window (or something like that)

The part I hate about that is: It was self-defense... Even if you consider that MAYBE she didn't think anyone would believe her, the police still treated it like a murder even after they found out what actually happened...

Are the Self-defense laws in Japan that limited? I mean even in Canada you can kill someone in self-defense (though goodness actually pulling that defense off is tough. Honestly because I am 6'4'' I can't use lethal force against anyone shorter then I am... though I am highly sure I am wrong.)

Don't get me wrong, I just like complaining because it is fun. I generally don't spend as much time complaining about things I hate as much as I complain about things I love.

As for the TVtropes page of Viewers are Geniuses... the general standards seem rather stable in that about 1/3rd of the examples are either "Genius bonus" or are examples that are true if you happen to be quite unknowledgable (such as not knowing the Greek or Roman Pantheon). For example they reference Persona 4 as this because of the quizes they give you... Ignoring that it is trivia a lot of them are actually straight basic questions and I REFUSE to believe the average intelligence of a person is so low that knowing what a Dirrect and indirrect article is with multiple choice is apperantly too far to grasp. No I simply cannot be that smart.
