music can make a show worth watching, for me.
I can just listen to the music seperately. Also, Yoko Kanno is awesome composer. I kinda wish she had some songs composed independent of anime to listen too (unless i just haven't found them), just to get an idea of her personal style. Instead she just does a really good job of matching the material. The GITS SAC soundtrack is definitely the best though.

After seeing someone talk about it somewhere else I am watching Hitman Reborn
Oh, I watched that.

...It doesn't actually get any better.

What really? DANG! honestly I was waiting for half the cast to become competent. Such as the main character.

Also you are right Inuyasha is basically on rails.

I have a question thought:

The main character of Hitman Reborn is getting scores below thirty and averages a 17.5 in all his classes. Does Japan use Percents? Because his scores are unbelievably low for it to be a percent... or even a good joke. It is criminally low

An example:

Megumi no Ame - Chitose Hajime performing Yoko Kanno's music.

... Not everyone may like Hajime as much as I do, but oh well  :P

Here is a challenge. After watching enough Hitman Reborn I thought of this

Find the Anime with the longest pre-show recap average!
or
Find the anime with the most recaps

Bleach does this pretty bad (every episode shows the last 5 or worse... 10 minutes of the last episode once the arc gets going) so it could be the worst in that respect.

Gundam shows have the most "Clip-shows" often back to back.

I've been watching Baccano recently, and I like it.
The knifebomb in episode 5 was just awesome.

I'm not sure about longest or most recaps, but Wolf's Rain has 4 recap episodes...ALL IN A ROW.  AND THEY ALL COVER THE SAME EVENTS.  Keep in mind that it's also a 26 episode series. (4 OVAs were added later, probably to make up for that garbage)

There comes a time when you must take off the soft, furry slippers of a boy and put on the shoes of a man.
Unless of course they don't fit properly and your feet blister up like bubble wrap.
Oh ho ho, but don't try to return the shoes, because they won't take them back once you've worn them.
Especially if that fat pig Tony is at the desk.

Hmm... don't think any of the series I've watched had unnecessary recap scenes.  Well, Death Note did, but that was only half an episode, and was quite a welcome reminder to me.

They ran out of money to complete the series and ended up needing to do the 4 recaps, but managed to get enough to do the OVAs later.
