Why did they have to make the ending sad? Dangit, I don't want realistic outcomes when I'm watching escapist absurdity!

Right, right, I get that. It still ticks me off though. The show is cheerful, upbeat, and fueled by dangerous quantities of awesome, and then BAM! Sucker punch downer ending (I know, I know, it was foreshadowed. But still!).

Nia and Simon didn't get married right away, as the anime might suggest, but the Word-of-god Gainax releases tell that there was a one week period that Simon and Nia spent by themselves on an island right after coming to Earth. So don't you fret, Simon got his prize for a whole week straight, before the marriage scene.

What do you guys think of Makoto Shinkai's films?
I've seen "Beyond the clouds/The place promised in our early days" more times than I'm willing to admit. It makes me all melacholic each and every time.

Oh, that's the guy that directed 5 Centimeters Per Second. I loved it, though it's the only one of his films that I've seen. I think I recommended it to anyone with interests beyond typical shounen/seinen stuff a while ago.

Code Geass is one anime I marathoned from start to finish in one or two sittings. Have a good time.

I thought there was a rather preposterous amount of that in there. TVtropes claims CLAMP did the character designs, though, so...yeah.

It is sort of the rule. If you don't know the language they can get away with anything!

I do give Code Geass some credit for the names, and they included a lot of Western legend names, such as Lancelot and naming the capital Pendragon.

When you watch Lancelot fighting Gurren, you get a definite sense that these are two different factions fighting one another, and the naming convention helps solidify that feeling. Unlike a lot of other animes/mangas that are similar, not all of the countries are just meshed-together shades of gray with Japanese names for everything.

Just so everyone knows, the Code Geass anime and manga are different: The anime has Knightmare frames, the manga does not. There are also a ton of AU mangas out there, so... yeah. Be careful.

 A friend of mine said she had a video titled "Grave of the fireflies", apparently made by Studio Ghibli. Anybody seen it, and can anybody give their opinion on if I should see it?
