Wow, the first Umineko VN was pretty awesome.  And the tea parties at the end actually help you understand rather than completely messing everything up.

Now I just need to work out who Beatrice was in Higurashi... hmm.  Virgilia, Lambdadelta and Berkenstel were obviously there, so it'd be odd for her to be absent.

Plus, I need to work out how the sins worked.  As far as I can tell:
Eva - lust
Hideyoshi - gluttony
Kinzo - greed (eh, makes sense)
Kanon - wrath (also makes sense, I suppose)
Genji - pride (uh, that really doesn't make sense...)
Nanjo - sloth (again, doesn't seem to fit...)
Kumasawa - envy (doesn't really fit either)
I suppose it hits the person who's guilty of them, but it starts to make less sense towards the last three.  Maybe the killer had a bunch of stakes left and just stuck them in randomly saying "Eh, this'll do".

How's the translation?

I'm playing through the Higurashi VNs right now, and there are quite a few errors. It's not quite a blind idiot translation, but it's rather spotty in several places.

On another note, before I forget, there were some problems that I had with Monster:

Who the hell killed the Baby? I mean, we're never even given a hint on who the hell she was.

Also, whatever the hell happened to Johan's apprentice, or Franz Bonaparta's son? They were pretty important secondary characters which are still alive at the series' end, but conveniently forgotten about.

Also, why the hell did Johan's mom dress him up like a girl? The reason is never even alluded to. If it was, then I clearly missed it somewhere.

Also, why are we never given Johan's and Nina's real birthnames? I mean, I know the show has this bizarre running symbolism thing going on, but really, I've been watching for 74 episodes, I want to know and the characters are just plain refusing to tell us.

Why did Grimmer have to die? Or worse, why did he have to receive his fatal injuries OFF SCREEN? Grimmer kicked alot of ass throughout the series, but we never got to see even a bit of it, only the aftermath. As much as I liked Grimmer (like seriously, he was my favorite character), I feel that his character wasn't used to it's fullest.

Actually, now that I think about it, ALOT of crazy awesome things happened off screen. COME ON, I want to see the action! I know the show is more than capable of it, as the few action scenes there are kick insane amounts of ass.

Yeah, it usually is... I don't have the patience for most anime, actually.  There are notable exceptions, but nowadays I can't watch much without getting super-annoyed.

manga better than anime?

hmm

i think they are better at different things
imo you can get away with more slapstick humor in manga than anime. e.g. the lupin  III manga works quite well despite being epically imature, but the non Myazka films are incredably lame.

Voice actors can bring alot of character that a manga cannot achieve (also bad voice actors can kill a character). Imo the cowbou bebop anime is much better than the manga. This is partly due to the action sequences in the manga not be very fluent.

Mangas can develope a deeper and longer plot better due to having no time or budget restrictions, of course some mangas e.g. Blame could probably be edited down by about a 3rd their content. I think the Akira and Nausicaa mangas exceed their anime counterparts because they can develope their plot much more.

Anime can achieve greater atmosphere more easily. the GITS manga is essentually a tongue in cheek cop series, where as the first film feels alot more like an atmospheric scifi thriller.

Yeah, I really love some anime: Wolf's Rain, Last Exile, etc.  It's just that by and large, I find anime doesn't work too well for me.


On the other hand, I hate reams of manga, too... so I suppose it's less that I like one thing more than another, and more that I notice my pickiness when it comes to anime.
