I am trying to remember the name of an anime...I don't really think you will know, but Bay12ers are awesome, so I will try.
 
It had lots of magic and stuff. I am pretty sure there was lots of light vs. dark in it, but I could be wrong. I remember....a blind dude? and a girl. (Oh great. You will never know with my fail memory.) I know I watched it a few years ago, and it was on DVD, so it could be older. Also, I remember one of the main characters was a berserker. He would get insanely strong when he was angry. And he was on a wagon with a bunch of other guys in the first episode.

That is all I remember. I believe in you Bay12. (Or not. This was so long ago...)

I mean, when else are you able to shout in someone's face "I will prove you don't exist!"?  This should be fun.  Although stating "I am completely insane" could be a good start to explaining things.

And I suppose the Witch of Berk was the true, true villain of Higurashi... even though she's almost certainly Rika (comon, anime characters are colour-coded for a reason).

Me and my friend call Umineko "Phoenix Wright, magical version."
Tell me you don't think Battler is like Phoenix Wright. The amount of dramatic finger-pointing alone makes me laugh.

And Beatrice is one of my favorite villains, especially because of one thing that happens around ep 18 or something.
She still doesn't top Ronove though.

Phoenix Wright... yep, definately.  Oh, and it's nice to have a magnificently evil villain once in a while.  Misunderstood and morally ambiguous villains only go so far...

I don't suppose Battler is allowed to invoke aliens or amazing new technology in his explanations?  I'd certainly have at least tried using that, even if aliens were not involved in any way would pretty much solve it .

I love how the show is like a murder mystery and a complex game of chess all at once.
All the evidence is examined as it comes along and used in a battle of wits and intellect.

Plus, the series has a very good cast of really interesting characters.
The insanity of Maria is one of the best parts of the show.

Yep, meta-type game based on a murder mystery.  Awesome.  The weird thing being that Beatrice's aim is to make the murder mystery element as wild and implausable as possible.

I quite like the way that characters who are killed off as expendables in some chapters are revealed to have importance in others.

So i decided to see what Umineko no Naku Kori ni was like.

I'm up to episode 13.

Well, I watched its spiritual prequel.  I know what to expect by now.

Although you've already overtaken me in terms of episodes .  The main reason I was watching it was because of Bellsounder, and I think dakarian stopped at ep 23.

So, basically...

Beatrice is little more than a very good illusionist.  She can summon all kinds of illusions, but cannot do ANYTHING to someone if they don't believe in her magic and recognise her as a witch.  This is how Battler seems to avoid death every time (except when he actually gives up).  If viewed in this light, all of Beatrice's fucked up minions become little more than glorified imaginary friends, and the scenes she shows Battler are, again, madeup to predispose him to believing in her magic.  Notice how nothing completely off the wall happens in arc one...

Umineko would've been a lot better if it had made more of an effort to wrap things up toward the end. I can only assume that it's due to the differences from the visual novel, but Battler's final 'explanation' is... not great.

Random trivia:
Both Maria and Hanyuu are voiced by Horie Yui. This is especially evident in the image songs.
