I remember it being ridiculously violent compared to other shows on TYV
The fight scenes sometimes made no goddamn sense..

I'm not sure if the show ever elaborates on why there are tons of demons in feudal Japan, but they're literally nonexistent in modern Japan.

Ooh, I know this!  It's a Japanese Culture Check, actually, not anything Inu-Yasha specific.

The story is that there's a spirit in every object, but the advent of electricity scared all the spirits away (they don't like living in electrified objects).  Now we can't see them around anymore as a direct result of such.

If I recall its do to the large shinto belief.

Obviously we need to get an EMP large enough to engulf Japan, then.

does that have anything to do with the belief that inanimate objects become sentient after existing for 100 years

power outage = DEMONS EVERYWHERE

Ah, yeah, that's the other version--we throw stuff out so frequently nowadays that it doesn't have a chance to exist long enough and become sentient.  Thanks for the reminder =)

no offense to any shinto believers (it is a shinto belief, right?)

If there's not an anime/manga about a team of sentient antiques fighting the forces of evil, there really ought to be. It's long overdue.

There could be a clock, and a tea set, a wisecracking hat, a perverted chair...

Uh yea, there a few shinto heavy anime. They all escape me currently.

Shinto is a neat religion. In the comic I am writing, we discussed having animal peeples in it, due to shinto belief and our leyline talismen are also sorta Shinto inspired.
