I've been going through some classics I missed, and I caught my first few episodes of Slayers earlier. It's totally tongue-in-cheek, and the dialogue breaks the fourth wall more than a few times even in the first episode.
It's almost like Record of Lodoss War meets... Fooly Cooly?
RoLW! Finally I find someone else who knows Lodoss. That was the first series I ever watched.
...
Orson and Ashram were my favorite characters, and then Shiris for the Santa outfit and not being a moron.
Lodoss was the first Anime series I watched too... my uncle is a huge D&D geek and taped the whole thing. One summer, while my brother, cousin, and I were visiting him, we all spent a weekend watching every episode on VHS. It was also my first TV Marathon.
It was a really well-plotted, well executed epic tale, looking at Western Fantasy from a different perspective. I also liked that Shiris, and even Deedlit weren't just wimpy magical girls, but held their own. In fact, Etoh was probably the biggest pansy, and even he had his moments. Woodchuck is probably one of my favorites, though... I've always had a soft spot for thieves and scoundrels.
What are you talking about, everyone knows Lodoss. It's the only D&D adaptation that isn't complete crap and is actually fun to watch.
The sequel though...
Great opening, one of the best. But the rest is pretty unwatchable.
I never caught Chronicles of the Heroic Knight. The themesong is actually in my head right now though.
Did you know that it was also a Manga? And a pen and paper game entirely separate from D&D? (Now you know!)
