Totally. Its got about everything. Romantic angels, aliens, hot girls, south part art style, giant robots kicking ass, a really big gun... Its a coming to age story. Holy crap mine, all done in six episodes.

The official release though is to overpriced.

What's weird though is that I heard the FLCL manga is COMPLETELY different from the anime.

It is. I was about half through when I was reading it. Its tone is much heavier, and much darker.

Still good. I like them for different reasons though.

Ok, whatever faults Code Geass may have, predictability certainly isn't one of them (just watched R2 ep19).  I guess it's earned it's Anyone Can Die trope...

Seriously, this'd be one of those times I feel slightly sick after watching something.  Although his treatment of Guilford raises the question of why he doesn't just cast an "Obey all my future commands" geass on people.

Also, I've realised that a benefit of watching anime is that none of my friends have seen it, and therefore none of them are able to spoil it for me (intentionally or unintentionally).

Yeah, I guess you can use meta in order to work out quite a lot of the story... for instance, episode 22 R1, you can probably guess that the last 3 episodes won't be about Euphemia and Lelouch creating a perfect country, but what happens in still surprising.

At least when you work out what is going to happen, rather than have it told to you, not only can you be wrong, but you only see the path in broad strokes. If you get spoiled, you know the ruts in the road.

Anyway, I just got around to watching the eight TTGL specials, the parallel works.

What the Parallel Works are is that they're music videos with TTGL-flavored original footage. As the word 'Parallel' may imply, they're all non-canon, but damn are they fun to watch. Very well made skits with the memorable music from the series to go along with it.

I'll just go over them real quick to let you know what I'm talking about.

1. Music - Rap is a Man's Soul! This one is funny, but is sort of weird in that there's a not insignificant amount of time focused on young Gimmi's dong. Not as repulsive as you might originally think. It's funny, and shows Yoko momentarily topless.

2. Music - Baf!Baf! Do you like being that fired up? This one might be some odd Japanese in-joke, but it has Viral on a pachinko machine (Like a slot machine, except more complicated) and there's some weird Pachinko duel between him and Kamina, Yoko, and Simon. Bizarre.

3. Music - Boin vs. Boin. The music for this one is special, because I honestly don't remember it from the series. The video to go with it is erotic in a surreal way, but you're too blinded by the radically different art style to notice. It's like some weird Old Feudal Japan noir picture book, to put it simply.

4. Music - Pierce the Heavens with your XXX! This one is my favorite by far. The video is like an alternate universe where the beastmen are the ones being oppressed, and the humans are the ones lording over them. It has an evil Kamina with malevolent sideburns and a heroic Viral as the protagonist. Also has appearances by the big four generals, which are helping Viral.

5. Music - Rap is a Man's Soul! This one is pretty cool as well. The video takes place in what appears to be a medieval setting with no Ganmen or anything. It has Kamina, adult Simon, and Viral all as knights/swordsmen breaking into a castle to save Nia, Viral's nameless Wife, and beat up a big knight. Very cool.

6. Music - To Hell with this Gattai! This one is probably the most unusual, but probably the most awesome of the lot. The video takes place on what can only be described as another world altogether, where some slightly different versions of beastmen are oppressing the peoples. However, some totally original nameless characters bust into the scene and kick ass.

7. Music - Libera Me from Hell. I have no idea what to say about this one. It's like some totally bizarre live action footage, all of which seems totally unrelated to TTGL, is played to Libera Me from Hell. There's some clouds, then a guy running, and some orange sand, and that's it. I don't know how to put it.

8. Music - All You Bastards, Get Fired Up! Alright, you know what I said about these being non-canon? This one actually IS canon, since it plays at the beginning of the first movie. The final parallel work shows Lordgenome's history. First of the Anti-spiral's attack, then him fighting back, growing into a vicious warrior, then being defeated and enslaving mankind.

@de5me7: yeah, Akira was good. Not as good as Nausicaa or Blame!, but still better than most. And yeah, tell us more about this "Eden", please.

mini review: This 18 volume scifi seinen manga is set in the near future after a viral epidemic has wiped out 15% of the worlds population. The first few volumes are very post apocalyptic, it then returns to a more civilised world and becomes very similar to GITS in many respects. It mainly focuses on the story of a boy called Eliah and how he grows up and learns to deal with this world. However theres lots of side tracks down the stories of other characters. And theres an over arching plot of what is happening to the world and how it fits into gnostic philisophy.

my opinon over all id give it 7/10 some volumes are probs worth 10/10 others closer to 5. All the storys end in tragedy which i quite like, and it makes alot of interesting observations about the human condition (e.g. why is it necessary to kill). Theres also alot of discussion amoungst the characters about how they reconcile a faith in God despite the inherant suffering in the world. However i give it a lower score because some volumes get way to side tracked into plots that dont really achieve anything. Also volume 8 is basucally 6 chapters of sex scenes and is more porno than story. The drawing style is almost exactly like Akira.

Only volumes 1-12 are available legitimatly in the west, ive found away of getting 1-15 (pm me), i dont know how to get 16-18. but it was finished a few years ago so i expect they are some where.

this wasnt really a short review nevermind. In general id recommend it, im a harsh critic, id rate it on par with gits which id also give a 7, by comparison i give Blame and biomega 8 and Akira 10.

Because alot of them are only concerned with running long at the cost of everything else, so you get tons and tons of subpar episodes that take their sweet time actually telling a story. That, and not everyone has all the time in the world to watch a show.
