Oh hey, new chapter of MSN. Focused on the various competitions of the festival.

Okay, so a race is fairly standard, and although a full stadium is rather extravagant it fits the academy town's extravagance just fine. There's also the martial arts competition from last year, except this time Ku Fei just rolls over everyone. A parkour competition seems perfectly sane to me, as well. But then we get "Authentic War Game Competition" with a freaking authentic helicopter gunship and stuff, and "Giant Ball-Rolling", which is exactly what it says on the tin.

But all that stuff pales in comparison to the main event. It's a scavenger hunt, with a twist, and that's all I'll say about that. Ends on a cliffhanger, too.

Well I heard Fate/Extra is basically a dungeon crawler RPG so that would be a really recent example.

You know what I'd like? A fate SRPG in the vein of Fire Emblem/Super Robot Wars. We've got Battle Moon Wars, sure, but that's a crossover doujin game. What I want to see is the Grail War expanded so that you've got dozens upon dozens of characters duking it out. It'd require some rewriting of the basic premise, sure, but I think it'd be neat.

If anything I feel like a Grail War would go more like a forum mafia game.  Assassination attempts and most fights happen during the night time.

So basically, I looked into the writer of Fate/Zero because I have this weird idea that writers tend to have a very heavy effect on how shows turn out. Then I saw that he did work on Puella Magi Madoka Magica, and I've heard some good things about it in the past. So I watched the entire thing last night.

So I've gone from watching no anime for about two years to watching one series on an ongoing basis, and completing another series in the span of a day. Also, this is the second time I've started watching an anime, heard a song playing, and realized almost immediately that the song was composed by Yuki Kajiura without needing to wiki it. Huh.

I'd heard it was a deconstruction before, so I was expecting that going in. What I wasn't expecting was the use of the art style to evoke a great deal of symbolism. I rather enjoyed the direction they took with a few of the scenes. The one really coming to my mind is how they showed Sakaya's splitting at the seems in her fight with Elsa Maria(?).
