I picked up the Original subbed Macross series over Comic-con weekend. Haven't had a chance to start watching it yet, though. Anyone know how different it is from the Robotech dub?

It pretty much just repeats itself over and over and over and over and over and over again.

Read the light novels instead.

As far as I know, Robotech is three different series (Macross is one of them) that are dubbed into a single, contiguous story.

Read both definitions (only about the first couple of sentences should be enough from each). Basically, in Macross, protoculture is that: an ancient culture, or something... like, the base for any culture or sentiment. In Robotech, protoculture = some stupid crap that powers mecha that somehow is also produced by kissing.

My friend did tell me this... although I haven't got to that bit yet.  Anyway, I'm still getting used to some of the anime quirks.  Like the way all the female characters have hauntingly huge eyes and the male characters all have very small eyes.  I'll probably get used to it after a while.

Incidentally, in the last shot of the opening credits, is it supposed to be reminiscent of throwing a pokeball, or is it just a standard anime move?

And about the mispelling... not sure why, I had just looked at the wikipedia article.  I think my brain just goes in phonetics mode when I'm tired.

Well, I always liked things by Gainax (except for Gunbuster 2, Jesus Christ that was terrible) so I'm going for His and Her Circumstance. I hope I'll like it.

Protip: Both Umineko, and Touhou are cheap, and have decently length for their demos. If you pirated them, you should be ashamed of yourself.
