And Scrapped Princess... urgh.  They needed to scrap that princess before she left the brainstorming stage.

Agreed.

Gunsmith Cats takes place in an accurate Chicago. Sexy Lady Bounty Hunters.

In that same vein Noir takes place in France mostly.

Cowboy Bebop, Outlaw Star, Trigun are space westerns and take place IN SPACE

Red Garden takes place in New York. Dead girls kill demons.

I'm starting to realize that my favorite animes all take place in Japan.

Huh.  Would you recommend Red Garden to those of us who watch a lot of anime?  I've been looking for other good Gonzo stuff since Last Exile, but haven't been able to find anything above mediocre.

I was disappointed by it, it sounded really great, but yeah it was pretty mediocre.

I liked Basilisk(its better than Basilisk, i was just ruined by expectations) and what I've seen of Welcome to the N.H.K. was hilarious.

Ah, nostalgia. For something so mediocre, I love me some Gunsmith Cats.

You get to play as Ronove, I'm sold.
Apparently... you can, yeah.

Yeah, I watched the trailer.
Ronove is awesome, It's great you get to play as him. Only thing that would make it better would be being able to play as one of the goatmen, Bernkastel, or Lambda.
We'll see if the game is any good when it comes out.

Nothing to super robotish or staged in Japan.)

Baccano! Might fit the bill. Non-linear storytelling about a bunch of immortals and a monster on a train. Takes place in AMURRICA in the early '30s. Only 16 episodes, solid plot and action. Good anime for someone who hates anime.

Good choice.
Plus, the music is sweet.

Tch. I don't really have any series to reccommend here. Too much of a mechanophile. The various Gundams are pretty super robot-esque, and the UC side stories are difficult to watch without knowledge of the original series. Big O is definitely a super robot show, albeit not a typical one. I guess I could reccommend Legend of Galactic Heroes, although I haven't watched it, since I've not heard anything but good things about it.

IIRC, its on Hulu. They have a reasonable amount of anime, some of it good. I know they have gurren lagann too. Either that or the one that sounds like baccano, durarara.

Hmm... where exactly would that be set?  The world?

Yeah, I watched the trailer.

I think all ten characters are virtually confirmed (Battler, Beatrice, Ronove, Virgilia, Kanon, Shannon, Chiester 410, Eva-Beatrice, Lucifer, Ange).

Er... yeah, pretty much.  I think it's mostly in Europe, though.

There are some scenes set in Japan though.

I always wondered though, why the Japanese refer to Japan as "Nippon".

The better question would be "Why do we refer to Nippon as Japan?"

The best question would be "What the hell are Nippon and Japan, when we all know that it's Nihon?"

More than you ever really wanted to know about Japan's name.

Short version: It's Portugal and China's faults.
