I just recently watched quite a bit.

I was curious about One Piece and watched the first cluster episodes that make up the beginning. Not bad. It held my interest. Not as bad as I initially thought. Then again, this is the subbed regular (aka uncensored non 4kids/Cartoon Network Toonami) version. I didn't expect Luffy to be as up front as he was. In other words, he wasn't a loser wannabe pirate like I initially thought. Well, he was, but he actually backed his ambitions up in the first episodes, unlike how other series gives them bark, but no bite at first.

Personal good news. It seems my sister has taken an interest in anime (or at least states that she wanted to see more, or more variety), and I have a decent stock of them. I just recommended her a few, and sent a few I already had. Among them, Gurren Lagaan I advised she watches through first. Others I tossed in were FMA:B, Eureka Seven, and Haruhi (season 1). At least some that I think she'll take interest in. Might include Spice and Wolf and Lucky Star, probably Death Note as well.

Interestingly enough, I just watched the first 3 episodes of Gurren Lagaan again. I forgot how awesome this series was. I think I put in enough delay to be able to watch it through again.

I think that each one represents a part of the users personality, the first shikai represents them, as they see themselves or as others see them, that's why we get shikais that are more less what we would expect from the user.Bankai on the other hand is that hidden part of a person, something that they maybe even don't know they have, that's why most are vastly different than shikai, capitains i think are mostly capitains because they mastered that hidden side of them, they have learned how to control it.

And another thing, how and when exactly did Urahara put that shiny thing (hougyoku was it?) in Rukia, and more importantly why?

He's a genius who invented a way for a soul reaper to have children with a liveing human, this isn't much of a strech.
And he did it to keep it hidden from aizen or somthing.

As I remember, he did it because it was too powerful for the world, so he hid it away inside Rukia. It isn't specified when though.

We can guess though, it's roughly set up through flashbacks that Rukia and her friends haven't been soul reapers long, less than 100 years in fact. It's also known Rukia was extemely skilled with manipulateing spirtual energies before she went to the academy. I put forth the therory he did it by chooseing a random kid in Rukongai as he ran away.

The hogyoku was implanted in Rukia when Urahara gave her his special hogyoku-concealing gigai.

Well if any of Aizen's bragging is right then it can't be then, I remember at one point he mentioned he had planned for her to go to the human world as the first step of his plan to remove the hogyoku from her, I got the impression it had already been in her.

Aizen knew that Urahara had the hogyoku, and probably manipulated things to get Rukia and Ichigo in the situation they were in.
To Aizen, sending Rukia to the human world was the first step in obtaining the hogyoku.

After Rukia lost her powers to Ichigo, she went to Urahara to get a gigai.  He didn't tell her that her gigai was not only concealing the hogyoku, but would also drain her power until she would be reduced to a normal human, thus perfectly hiding the hogyoku in the human world.

Gigai is the phsyical body, a shinigami is an entirely spiritual being, how does an object fused with a physical body transfer itself into a spirit tied to that body?

That is why I assume it was put in Rukia as they where fleeing soul society, just putting it in a random kid so it would be likely aizen wouldn't find them.
