I understand it's place in anime history and everything, but I just did not enjoy NGE. I think I made a post or two when I was watching it...oh yes, a quick search reveals the appropriate quote.

I probably would have enjoyed it more if I watched it when I was 13 and had angst running out my ears, but yeah... that was mostly what I took out of it. Personally, I would say don't bother.

I watched it when I was 11 and thought it was glorious. I think I'll watch it again once the 'remake' finishes. They're a good deal better, I think, but to fully appreciate them you should be at least passingly familiar with the series.

The angst and mental situations in NGE aren't BS situations. At least the characters are well developed given their histories (tragic) and the setting (more tragic).

I watched it when I was 11 and thought it was glorious. I think I'll watch it again once the 'remake' finishes. They're a good deal better, I think, but to fully appreciate them you should be at least passingly familiar with the series.

Don't forget that the remake is, in some ways, drastically different.
