My mom friends introduced me to anime before I was in kindergarden.

I didn't start watching whole series until last year (2009) when I thought it would be interesting.  One of the first series I got into was reading Detective Conan manga online, there's too much though.

I was also introduced to Anime by my dad. When I was like...8 or 9 he still watched it.
You should see our upstairs closet. The whole top quarter of the closet is filled with anime. I can't even find one specific anime if I want to.

Now there's three users with at least Kamina shades (if not Kamina himself) next to each other.
I was about to modify mine to make it look like Fry is wearing the glasses while trying to eat the pineapple. Too many frames, too little patience.

However, I have crafted the glasses for anyone else to apply to theirs if they want.

Hi!

Interesting. So, we kind of have some second generation anime fans :) :)

I am more with the classic bunch: Watched The Bee Maya (or whatever you would call it), Heidi and the other classics as a small child together with Tom & Jerry not really knowing about the difference in origin. Then, a bit older, I watched RoboTech while also being a fan of Transformers, but RoboTech was among the first hints I got about there being different cultures. This was then strengthened by the experience of English animation like When The Wind Blows and The Last Unicorn (a co-production with Japanese, I know). However, my real involvement with the terms "anime" and "manga" came via Attack No. 1 for anime and X by Clamp for manga. That was towards the end of my high school days, shortly before Sailormoon spread across the world.

My first anime was the original Digimon series, and the TV provider was kind enough to leave it subbed, i was still very young, maybe 7 or 8 years old. Before that i watched those classic cartoons like T&J, Loony Toons and the like. Then there was a pause up untill about two years ago when a friend gave me his FMA anime series, i really liked it and wanted more, it was about that time that another friend introduced me to a local anime club, so i started hanging out with the members which were really great guys, then i started watching other stuff, Paranoia Agent, Samurai Champloo and eventually Bleach. Then came the other stuff i found myself, like Umisho, Desert Punk and other wierder stuff :D

Aside from anime, I suggest everyone start reading manga. There are hundreds of good manga that don't have anime because every good manga cannot become an anime.

Hi!

Aside from anime, I suggest everyone start reading manga. There are hundreds of good manga that don't have anime because every good manga cannot become an anime.

That is definitely true. Most of the manga I have are single volume or even just 30 to 90 pages in length as far as their story go, so the odds of them getting turned into anime is relatively low. Yet, there are many, many fine stories among them.

My first Animes that I recall were Ranma 1/2, Robotech and Dragonball.

Giant Robots and Actiony Martial Arts are still some of my favorite animes.

So there was never any difference for me between anime, and nicktoons or Warner Bros or Steven Spielberg presents cartoons. They were all cartoons.

And they all are still cartoons. I'll watch animation for the sake of being animation indifferent to its country of origin or art style.
