Hi!

judging by half the members avatars on here, I take it the majority like anime.  I'm not a fan myself.  I like Akira, and Trigun, but that's about it really.  Cowboy beebop isnt bad either.  Japanese anime is just too flashy and overstylish for my tastes I guess...

That is quite interesting. Especially since I place Trigun and Cowboy Beebop into the flashy and stylish corner of anime (^_^;;

My perception may be warped, but things like Higurashi no naku koro ni or Paranoia Agent, despite their emotional and psychological strength do not seem as stylish and flashy as those two, for instance.

I pretty much like at least something in every media medium.

That goes for genres as well, I like dramas, comedies, romance, etc. as long as their good or what not.  I don't know man.

I actually sortof agree with ToonyMan.  There's no genre/ medium I particularly dislike (or more like there's no genre or medium (within reason) I can't imagine enjoying).  The whole reason I started watching anime was for something different.

Personally, with only a very few exceptions (probably ingrained in me during childhood), I abhor  basically all tv/movie material using real persons. Usually, I find them ugly as sin, most of the plots and tales are uninspired and uninteresting and if they happen to come up with an interesting tale by some freak accident, you can count on the director's son-in-law botching the main character in so horrid a fashion that you can't watch without weeping.

On my good list are only the classics like the Gregory Peg version of Moby Dick (the new version is an abomination), DePartieu (or however he is spelled, sorry) in The Count of Monte Christo, or Monthy Python. Everything else may get a laugh (which may be sufficient for some things), but is not really something I enjoy (okay, I have a weak spot for Lord Vader in the original Star Wars Movies - his outfit, his star destroyer and the ATATs really feel right).

But otherwise, please no "meatbags" for me, thank you.

I'm like that too.
There is good to be found in every medium and genre, so why limit yourself to only a few?
Even genres I generally dislike (rap, pop, romance) have gems in them as long as you look in the right places.

Look at Kanon (2006) instead. That anime.. well, I can't give it 10/10, but I'm perfectly willing to give it 9.5/10. Just watch it.

I preferred most of CLANNAD's heroines over Kanon's. Ayu remains my favorite character (Horie Yui -> favorite voice actor) but most of CLANNAD's plots resonated more, I think. Makoto and Shiori weren't great, but Mai was fine. Meanwhile, I didn't care much for Nagisa (though she did grow on me), every other character was great, especially Fuuko and Kyou.

I'm actually rather surprised most Key/Maeda Jun anime hasn't been discussed in this thread, at least not recently.

As far as the actual games go, CLANNAD has an excellent translation done, which I'll encourage anyone with an interest in the anime to try.  A walkthrough will probably help.
